HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 01.14.2014 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees January 14, 2014 Attending Bruce McCullough Dixie Feller Alan Klebe Rose Marie Kline Nancy Schmidt Minutes December minutes were presented and approved as read. Correspondence Heath Billingsley donated $250.00 to the "animal fund" and Heather Lund donated $400.00 for the holiday season. It was decided that these donations would be put into the Library Foundation for future needs. Mike Dewey made a donation in the amount of $100.00 for the subscription to the Wall Street Journal. A donation was made by the Laurel Garden Club in the amount of $20.00. Circulation Report Traffic: down 4.68 %; circulation: all items circulated totaled 2,779 (including 207 eBooks), book circulation was up 7.52 %, media circulation was down 13.32 %, eBook checkouts for this month was 8.51% of total book circulation; computers: intemet use was down 7.42 %, children's use was up 53.12 %, wi -fi use up 24.14 %; patron cards: city patrons made up 62.67% of all issued cards, county patrons accounted for 28.03% of registered cards holders, and nonresident county /resident - district patrons are at 9.31%. Technical assists: 83 Old Business Copies of the updated Collection Management Policy were signed and distributed to each Board member. There hasn't been any response from Nathan about his position on the Board. Nancy will contact him again this week to see if he wants to resign from the Library Board so we can think about finding a replacement member for his position. New Business The Montana State Library has a new award for libraries that is available to all that meet the minimum requirements. The Excellent Library Service Award (ELSA) application is open until March 24, 2014 for libraries to apply. Nancy reviewed the application requirements with the Board to determine eligibility. Laurel Public Library meets all of the required recommendations. The application will be submitted for approval. Awards will be announced at the Montana Library Association Annual Conference in Billings in April. Nancy has completed her requirements for Library Certification through the State Library. She will submit her renewal application to Sarah McHugh for approval. The certificate should be sent out in about a month. Library certification for Directors is required by Montana State Library as part of the funding received by each public library from the State Library. If the Director doesn't receive their certification within 3 years of taking the position, or renew within 4 years, the library doesn't receive money designated by the State Legislature for libraries. Nancy will be attending Federation training in big Timber on January 23 11 -3, from Kate Lewis. This training pertains to the position of Federation Coordinator for South Central Federation. Kate will review requirements and timelines that are critical to the position of Coordinator. Other Addressing the Board Next regular meeting February 11, 2014 Dixie motioned that the meeting be closed, Alan seconded the motion. Passed.
