EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE
JULY 21, 2014
COUNCIL CHAMBER
5:30 P.M.
Members Present: Doug Poehls Clete Knaub
Richard Dawes Pat Kimmet
Others Present: Rick Musson Jan Faught
Brent Peters Jean Kerr
Fire Siren
There was nothing to report on at this time. It was recommended at the last meeting that a
secondary quick response would be electronic texting. Rick is looking into updating the dispatch
equipment to allow for sending a text efficiently to the firemen.
Animal Ordinance
Doug Poehls stated he did not have time to put the changes in the animal ordinance pertaining to
commercial and non - commercial dog kennel licenses. Judge Jean Kerr spoke on an incident she
had with a lady in court. The lady lives in the east end trailer court and had gotten ticketed for
not having her fourteen dogs licensed. She came into City Hall and could only license two dogs
and then inquired about a kennel license, which at the current time the city does not sell. Doug
told Jean that the committee discussed kennel licenses and the ordinance will be updated,
therefore, dog kennel licenses will be sold. Jean also brought to the attention of the committee
having signs pertaining to No Weapons in public buildings.
Safety Mill Levy
Doug handed out a safety mill levy timeline to help the committee with the levy in the future.
Shirley Ewan had given Doug her proposal for the safety mill levy. Her suggestion to help the
mill levy pass was to start low, due to the fact that the mill levy referendum did not pass for the
parks and they were not asking for that much.
Doug suggested that the committee members be assigned to work with each department head in
order to learn about their needs and what is important. Clete Knaub was assigned to work with
Chief Musson, Pat Kimmet was assigned to work with Fire Chief Peters, and Richard Dawes was
assigned to work with Jan Faught, Ambulance Director.
Respectfully submitted,
Neva Hall
