HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Board Minutes 07.09.2014 City of Laurel Park Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, July 9, 2014 In attendance were Scot Stokes, Penny McSweyn, Gretchen Paulson and Bruce McGee. Absent was LuAnne Engh, Amy Pollock, and Chuck Dickerson. Called to order at 5:35 pm. 1. Public comment: none Since there was not a quarum of board members, we used this as a brain storming session and discussion. All agenda items were not discussed at length and they should remain on the August 7 agenda as they were for July. Gretchen will email Sam Painter, city lawyer, to see if the Billie Riddle money is in a revocable trust or irrevocable trust. Scot was notified by a citizen that money may have been taken out of the trust for non -pool related expenses. Judge Jean Kerr was looking for the fines for dog waste as recommended by the Park Board to City Council. Scot said it will be discussed at the next council meeting. Gretchen will follow up with State of Montana parks department to see what /if they would purchase the Riverside Park. Her contact was not the appropriate person, but was sent onto another in the department that should be able to help. Discussion on raising funds for parks department similar to Rock the Block or the street dance the Jaycees put on as a fundraiser. Could we get a basket of dog items and raffle it off at one of the vendor events in Thomson park? Penny will contact Petsmart and see if they would consider donating items for a basket. If yes, then Gretchen will contact Katt Alford and Mary Lou for the vendor event to see if we could also get a table to see the raffle tickets and ask for donations for the parks. Gretchen will look up the Laurel Municipal Code and see what the Park Board tasks are as listed. Bruce mentioned it was the responsibility of the Park board to get certain items accomplished, and in the past they hadn't. Gretchen hadn't heard of these tasks, so she will look them up and bring a copy. Riverside park building use, it was mentioned that the Jaycees are the only one with an annual lease. Who else needs to have a lease? If they are not paying for the use of the building, then should the city be the ones to maintain the buildings or should the occupants? Accomplished this month! THANK YOU TO THE PARKS DEPARTMENT!!! They successfully spread all of the mulch in Kids Kingdom. It was a big job and it would have taken much longer without the big machinery. August Agenda items: Same as July agenda items since not enough members were present to make motions or discuss items in full. Follow up with Penny on FOE donation for dog waste sign in Town Square park. The Park Board meeting adjourned at 6:30pm. Submitted by Gretchen Paulson, Park Board member.
