COUNCIL CHAMBER

Others Present: Rick Musson Heather Cunning
Animal Ordinance
Chairman Doug Poehls handed out a copy of Montana's Exotic Animal Laws. Discussion on
making the wording within the Laurel Animal Ordinance pertaining to exotic animals to be
compatible with the Montana Laws. Heather Cunning thought this was a positive decision
directed to the concerns of citizens on the restrictions of reptiles.
The committee discussed the wording in the ordinance pertaining to commercial dog kennel and
non - commercial dog kennel license. It was stated that it would be crucial to have instructions for
meeting kennel requirements referenced in the ordinance and have a handout when someone
purchases a kennel license.
It was mentioned and agreed by Chief Rick Musson that the verbiage in LMC 6.04.030, which
was changed to read "unlawful to interfere with enforcement officer ", would be changed back to
the original wording of "law enforcement officer" and pertain to animal control and police
department.
Fire Siren
It was discussed that the most central location to place the fire siren would be at the ball park. It
was suggested that a secondary quick response would be electronic texting. Chief Rick Musson
spoke on updating the dispatch equipment to allow sending a text quickly and efficiently. The
city would be money ahead to update the system at the police department rather than to move the
old siren or purchase a new one. The firemen would be required to carry a cell phone. Rick will
get a bid and submit it to the council for approval. Doug stated he has knowledge that the
present siren can stay on the city hall roof and be used until a new method is put into effect.
Doug asked for recommendation from the committee. It was agreed unanimously that a cell
phone text would be more efficient and it was suggested retiring the siren by putting it into
storage after all the years of service to the city.
Respectfully submitted,
Neva Hall
