INSURANCE COMMITTEE
JUNE 29, 1999 7:00 P.M.

The committee listened to presentations and asked questions of the prospective companies in the
following order:
Montana Medical Benefits Plan, an indemnity plan, by David Brickley;
New West Health Plan, an HMO, by Donna Sehn and Dan Anderson, in dual presentation
with
Yellowstone Community health Plan, an HMO, by Linda Rodgers and Dave Allen;
Montana League of Cities and Towns Association plan, an indemnity plan through Blue
Cross/Blue Shield, by Jim Edwards:
Some of the differences between the plans included deductibles vs. first dollar benefits vs. co-
payments and freedom of choice of doctors with the indemnity plans vs. limited choice of
doctors with the HMO plans, i.e. the New West plan is affiliated with the Deaconess Medical
system while the YCHP plan is affiliated with Saint Vincent Hospital. Coverages, benefits, and
participation in the plans by retired city employees were also discussed.
The committee requested a sample policy from each company for review.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at 7:00 p.m. in the Old Council
Chambers, at which time the committee will recommend their choice of carrier.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
