Re: MMIA Board Vacancy
Recently, Phyllis Leonard, Mayor of Havre and long standing member of the MMIA
Board of Directors informed the Board that, because she has decided not to stand for
reelection, she will be resigning her seat on the MMIA Board effective November 2001.
The term of this seat expires at the annual meeting in September 2002.
Representatives of an MMIA member city or town with a population under 20,000 are
eligible to hold this seat.
The Bylaws of the MMIA require that seated members of the Board appoint an
individual to fill an unexpired term. The Board is seeking letters from individuals
interested in being considered for this appointment. Letters of interest must be received
by the MMIA no later than Wednesday, November 14, 2001. Letters will be considered
at a meeting of the Board scheduled for November 16, 2001.
With annual revenues exceeding $10 million the MMIA has developed a significant
partnership with its 117 member cities and towns. The Board, which meets eight to ten
times per year, directs the operation of your insurance organization. Meetings are
generally held in Helena on a Friday, with the exception of an annual retreat, beginning
on Wednesday.
The MMIA Board of Directors is a dynamic organization charged with directing the
activities of a statewide interlocal agency that provides essential insurance and risk
management services to Montana cities and towns. Through regional and national
training Board members obtain a broad understanding of the many aspects of the
liability, workers' compensation and property insurance industry. While participating in
meetings or training, members are reimbursed for lodging and receive per diem and
mileage payments..
Individuals interested in placing their name in consideration for this seat on the MMIA
Board are asked to send a letter indicating their interest and providing any pertinent
