We hope that you will find it both interesting and useful. The Local Goverment Center is in the process of preparing its Montana Local Government Profiles for Fiscal Year 2001. In order to do this we will need your assistance. Will you please ask your Clerk/Treasurer or Finance Director to send us a copy of your Tax Levy Requirements Schedule for all funds for FY 2001 from your budget document In addition we need to know how many full time equivalent employees you have. Topics The primary topics of the workshop will be: Fortes and Powers of Local Government in Montana Land Use Decision Making Human Resource Issues Labor Law in Montana Hiring and Termination Case Studies Resources Resource people for the workshop include a number of seasoned experts in local government from around the state, including university faculty as well as state and local government officials. Additionally, we believe that each participant is a resource person who will bring a unique perspective of local government to the workshop that can be shared with fellow mayors and councilmembers. Question and answer sessions will provide an opportunity to share concerns and ideas with each other and with the workshop instructors. "Forms and Powers of Government" An overview of the variety of forms of local government and governing powers authorized by Montana law. If two or more officials from the same local government attend, the fee will be $150 for the first official and $125 for each additional official. This includes all instructional materials, the Thursday night banquet with the Municipal Clerks, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks and lunches. This year officials are invited to participate in a pre-workshop seminar on "Effective Meeting Techniques." This will be held from 1 - 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, as part of the C1erk/Trensurer's Institute. It will be presented by Margery A. Price who is a professional registered parliamentarian as well as a certified municipal clerk and an elected city council member. Registration fee for the seminar is $50, and is in addition to the Elected Official's registration fee. The Clerk/Treasurers invite you to their Wednesday evening pizza parry. Information will be sent to you when you register. REGISTRATION To register, return the attached form with a $50 deposit. Deposits will be applied to the total registration fee. Early registration is encouraged to aid in workshop planning. City claim forms are acceptable for deposits and payments of registration fees. Please make checks payable to the Local Government Center. HOUSING Participants are responsible for their own housing arrangements. A block of rooms is available at the Holiday Inn - Grand Montana in Billings. Rates are $35 per room for single occupancy and $60 for double occupancy plus room tax. These rooms will be held until April 20, 2001. A block of rooms is also available next door at the Billings Hotel. Rates are $35 single and $50 double (plus 4% tax). These rooms will be held until April 25, 2001. CANCELLATION POLICY If notice of cancellation is received by the Local Government Center by April 25, 2001, the deposit will be refunded less $10. No refund will be made for cancellations received after that date. Substitute participants may be made at any time.
