Tbe TCSP Oversight CommiRee met on Monday, May 15, 2000 at tho City Council Chambers from
7:00 to 8:40 p.m. Those ia o~tendance were: Chairman Bud Johnson and Commiltee Members Gay Easton,
Ken Olsen, Cai O~min. Kale Stevenson, Kathleen 13a,~m~mlaez, Diana Walkm', and Lan~ McCann.
Bud Johnson called the meefin~ to order. The mlmtles from the April 13~h meeting were approved as
read.
Kathleen Baumgazmer and Diana Walker were thanked for all cf the work done un the survey restths.
A drawing was held for the $30.00 girl cen~t~t_ e for those rOa~ming tbeh' completed survey. All namas
woro put into a bag and eno was drown en~ The nmne drown was Denise Hammer of 508 6* Aveaue. It
was decided to send ~ Hammer the $30.00 ia Merchant Bllcks ~ ~ be used at ally business ia Latu~
Kathleen and Diana reported on the ~mmnty of the fe$l~llSas to the queslJo, nnairo. Di:~nn S~lt~xl that

for tbe que~dommire~ and aH cf the r~den~ who responded. She was ask~ how much it cost for the
arlicl~ She stated that it cost $3.00 and was not important to have what amount reimbursed. Kathleen
stated that throughout the quesOnnnaires most bad the same theme for their responses. She stated that
2,616 questionnaires were sent out and 115 were retomed for a return rate cf 4.4°/~ The ~mmary of the
responses was broke down into two groups: positive and negative f~'edback. The main respollse fe~e~ved
was that most wauted to s~ ~ nmimtmnnc~e dolle ~ While ~ompiliag aH of the results, Kathleea
found ~b~ tbere is a lot of misinform~on ent there and naked if there is a way to get the word out to inform
people with the fight information. She asked ffthe budget could be redone ia order to allow money to go
towards public r~ln~ns to address getting the cotreet answe~ to the different questions out to the public.
She stated ~hat if this cannot be done through the Laurel Outlook, then maybe it could be accomplished
through flyers ia the water bills sent out. Diana s~ed ~hat people liked haviag wide sUeets but do not
~md~-b-tnnd thc high amollut cf ~ it cogls to maintain thee slreets. Th~Te are towlls What w~r~
suggested ia the questiommi~s to ~otaet that have rolmdabouts ~md bulbouts. Ka~hleea asked if she could
couta~ these towns and find out why these roundabouts worked or did not work ia their Gomrmmlty.
Kathleen was told to go ahead with this project and ~hanlced for offering to do tiffs. Diana slated that there
were some people who stated what th~ would like to come to the meetings and get more involved with the
plmmln~ She suggested iavi~ng these people personally to sit on a focus group. Another ~hlno found
through the surveys is What people do not like studies, and they do not node~stand why it is imp~rtaut to
have a study completed before doing an3nhln§. CUl stated that he was impressed with the amount of

done, to only havo oue mulliple-choice question asked. Cai asked if a question that was asked by one of

in the Laurel Outlook and further statud that it may have le be dune in both newspapers. Larry stated that
tho City's n~o~sletler is dne to be put out a~o'aln and this goes to every address in Laurel. Tbe questions and
answers could be done through thc newsletter. He said that the Chy is goiag to do this with some of the
inform~on about gmbage issues. It was decided to have Kathleen and Diana check the prices charged by
tho Laurel Outleok for this pmpo~ and report back at the next meeting In thc menmlm o, iaforma~ion
