HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 10.16.1979Minutes of the City Council of Laurel October 16, 1979 A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana, was held in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor, Larry:D. Herman, at 7:00 p.m., on October 16, 1979. COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Albert Ehrlick Harold Burns Duane Behm Donald Meyers COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: none Bill Brennan Susan Carter Terry Fink Ervin Metzger INVOCATION: Invocation given by Reverend Ferguson. MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of 10/2/79 approved as presented. Minutes of the special meeting of 8/13/79 approved as presented. Minutes of the special meeting of 8/14/79 approved as presented. Minutes of the special meeting of 9/26/79 approved as presented. Minutes of the special meeting of 10/2/79 approved as presented. CORRESPONDENCE: Letter from Spildie Construction to HKM Associates regarding the Laurel Water Plant Filter Modification Change Order. There is a proposed change to delete four (4) surface wash control valves for a credit of $21,173.00. The City will purchase the materials and install four (4) keystone valves for a net savings of $18,799.00 not including labor, which is estimated to be about $100.00. With no objection from the Council, the Mayor so ordered the change. A thank you note was received from the Laurel Senior Citizens, thanking the City for the $2,500400 Revenue Sharing contribution. Letter from Security Federal Savings and Loan Association regarding their Tax Sheltered Deferred Compensation Plan[ Letter from the Coal Board thanking the Council for the tour of Laurel and the dinner and also expressing their appreciation for the photo album. Letter from the Yellowstone County Air Pollution Control regarding the dust in the Murray Heights area. Petition/complaint received from Mr. & Mrs. Harold Rider, Mr. & Mrs. Larry Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Lee Otis, and Mr. & Mrs. McMillan, regarding Mike Romee's paint and body shop. The Clerk was ordered to write a letter to these people explaining that a zone change was given and a hearing was held on June 9, 1977. A communication from the Laurel Reserve and Auxiliary Police, indicating the hours worked for the third quarter of 1979. PUBLIC HEARING: This being the time and place advertised, a public hearing was held regarding the proposed Revenue Sharing Budget. There were no comments from the people present. 7th STREET SANITARY SEWER: An agreement has been reached with Steel Structures regarding additional money for HUD paper work. Motion by Alderman Meyers to approve a change order in the amount of $6,000.00 which ailows for the extra expense of HUD paper work and to approve the signing of the contract, seconded by Alderwoman Carter. Carried. page 2 Minutes of the City Council of Laurel The total amount of the contract is now $270,332.00. Tom Bradley commended HKM for the work they have done on this project. MAYOR'S COMMENTS: Reminded the Council of a Special meeting on October 23, 1979, at 5:00 p.m., for bid opening on the 10-inch AC water main. DON LENHARDT: reported that bid opening for a new police ear will be November 6, 1979. CURT McKENZIE: reported on the progress of the storm sewer project. KEN BEVEN: reported on the progress of the 3rd Avenue water line.
