August 21, 1979
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana,
was held in the council chambers and called to order by Mayor, Larry D.
Herman, at 7:00 p.m., on August 21, 1979.

Donald Meyers Ervin Metzger
F COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: none
INVOCATION: Invocation given by Reverend Holt.
MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of August 7th approved as presented. Minutes of the special meeting of August 8th approved as presented.
CORRESPONDENCE: Received correspondence regarding letter of credit from HUD on the 7th Street Sewer Extension.
RESOLUTION.NO. 1762
AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT SMALL CITIES
PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF LAUREL.
Motion by Alderman Burns that Resolution No. 17b2 be passed and adopted,
seconded by Alderman Metzgero Carried.
Received a letter from Martel Construction, Inc. requesting that the
building permit fee be waived for the West Elementary School.
Motion by Alderman Metzger to waive the building permit fee for West
Elementary School, seconded by Alderman Brennan. Carried.
SID 102: This being the time and place advertised, bids were. opened for
curb, gutter and street paving.

1185A Long Construction Co. 73,797.50
Because there were not-any bond bids received, no action was taken at
this time.
BID - COMBINATION HYDRAULIC SEWER CLEANER AND MANHOLE VACUUM SYSTEM, TRUCK
MOUNTED: The bid-was opened August 7th and referred to Department Heads for
review and to bring back a recommendation to the August 13th meeting. There I~
was not a quorum at this meeting, but a recommendation was made to purchase I~ the equipment.
Motion by Alderman Metzger to accept the bid from Hall-Perry Machinery
Co., seconded by Alderwoman Carter. Carried.
SWEEPING DISTRICT: There was discussion and a recommendation to lower the
levy to 50¢ a frontage foot for residences in the district and to leave the business property at $1.50 a frontage foot.

RESOLUTION N0, 174g-A
TO AMEND RESOLUTION N0. 1749, LEVYING AND ASSESSING
ALL OF THE PROPERTY EMBRACED WITHIN STREET SWEEPING
DISTRICT N0. 1, OF THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA, FOR
THE PURPOSE OF THE SWEEPING OF STREETS IN THE DOWN-
TOWN OR BUSINESS DISTRICT.
Motion by Alderman Metzger that Resolution No. 1748-A be passed and
adopted, seconded by Alderman Fink. Carried with Alderman Behm voting nno."
MAYOR'S COMMENTS: Reminded the council of a special meeting on August'
2 th at 5:30 p.m.
Ervin Metzger brought up the matter of bringing the airport into the
city limits. The Mayor instructed the City Attorney to draw up annexa-
tion papers.
Appointment The Mayor requested the council's approval of the appointment
of Claude Cory to the Airport Commission.
Motion by Alderman Metzger to approve the appointment of Claude Cory
to the Airport Commission, seconded by Alderwoman Carter. Carried.
Don Meyers thanked the council for allowing the Jaycee's to sponsor a
circus on August 19th. It turned out to be a success and the grounds
were left cleaner than before it started.
Duane Behm announced that the Budget Committee will meet August 22nd at
7:00 p.m.
There being no further busi to come before the council at this
time, the meeting was adjourned t 7.30 p.m.
