Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
April 15, 1980
regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana~
Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Larry D.
p.m., on April 15, 1980.

COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: Harold Burns
INVOCATION: Invocation given by Terry Fink.
MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of April l, 1980, approved as
presented.
CORRESPONDENCE:. A list of the fire department officers was submitted for
council approval.
Motion by. Alderman Metzger to approve the list of fire department
officers, seconded by Alderman Meyers. Motion carried.
Letter from the Trustees of the Laurel Public Library inviting the
Mayor and Council to attend a tea at the library on April 17th from 2:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in ceIebration of National Library Week.
Letter from the town of Columbus regarding a district meeting of the
Montana League of Cities and Towns to be held in Columbus on May 9th at
7:30 p.m., a no-host dinner will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Letter from the Laurel-Yellowstone City-County Planning Board
recommending that the governing bodies spend $1,400.00 for planning a
softball complex in High Point Subdivision, funds to be taken from the
Laurel-Yellowstone County Park Fund. Matching funds of $700.00 to be
supplied by the Park & Recreation Committee (Laurel Softball Organizations}.
Motion by Alderwoman Carter to approve the recommendation of the City-
County Planning Board to spend $1,400.00 of the Laurel-Yellowstone County
Park Funds for planning the softball complex, seconded by Alderman Fink.
Carried.
Mike Mace has requested a one-year extension of the approval of
Cherry Hill Subdivision II. The City-County Planning Board recommended
approval of this request at their April 10th meeting.
Motion by Alderman Behm to approve the recommendation of the City-
County Planning Board to allow a one-year extension of the approval of
Cherry Hill Subdivision II, seconded by Alderman Meyers. Carried.
Motion by Alderman Fink to enter into the record the minutes of the
City-County Planning Board of April 10th, seconded by Alderman Meyers.
Carried.
Mayor proclaimed the week of April 12th to 19th as Earth Week in the
City of Laurel.
Mayor read a progress report on the projects now being done in Laurel.
These reports entered into the record.
City Clerk and City Treasurer's financial reports for the month of
March were presented for approval.

Motion by Alderman Metzger that the City Clerk and City Treasurer's
reports be approved, seconded by Alderman Brennan. Carried.
AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION.BIDS: HKM would like to recommend approval o£ the
bid From Long Construction Company subject to concurrence of the FAA.
Motion by Alderman Fink:to accept the bid from Long Construction
Company subject to FAA approval and giving the Mayor authority to enter
into the contract upon FAA approval, seconded by Alderman Meyers. Carried.
DON BAKER -- INTERLOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION: Mr. Baker would like the
city council to authorize a resolution that would create an Interlocal
Government Commission for the purpose of looking into the areas of con-
solidation, cooperation or service transferres specifically and particu-
larly at this time in the area of law en£orcement. This commission would
consist of 10 members -- 4 from Yellowstone County, 4 from the City of
Billings, 1 from the City of Broadview, and 1 from the City of Laurel.
RESOLUTION NO. 1779
APPROVING THE INTERLOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION
WITH EXPENSES SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF THE LOCAL
GOVERNMENT ENTITY.
Motion by Alderman Behm to approve Resolution No. 1779 setting up
the Interlocal Government Commission subject to expenses being approved
by the local government entity, seconded by Alderman Brennan. Carried.
Permission granted for Alderwoman Carter to leave the state.
KEN BEVEN -- AWWA: Ken reported that he was elected Chairman to the AWWA
Montana Section. He stated that Laurel would be the site of a training
session to be held between April 24th through May 22nd on Thursday
evenings. Ken would like the council to be aware of our facilities
being used for this training.
There being no further business to come before the council at this
time, the meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
