COUNCIL CHAMBERS MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Chuck Rodgers Ken Olson Gay Easton Gary Temple Mark Mace Bud Johnson OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Erekson Larry McCann Mary Embleton Steve Klotz Rick Musson Jim Stevens Jan Faught (6:39 p.m.) Gary Temple commended Larry McCann for his efforts to bring a new business to Laurel. This business would provide twenty to twenty-five new jobs. Thomae Lumber's attorney recently contacted Matt Erekson inquiring what the City of Laurel is seeking for the unloading issue. Joe Leckie should be completing codification of the ordinances soon. Larry McCann stated that Montana Legend Meats requested to be on the February 20th council agenda to present their business. This business is a good-sized operation and would require some zone change activity. If their recent land purchase offer were accepted, the business would like to be packing meat in Entertainment Subdivision this spring. The City of Laurel's domain name application was lost, has since been submitted to a new company, and should be available soon. No further information regarding the intake has been received from the Corps of Engineers. Our contact person in Omaha has not heard anything either. Larry stated that we would need to rely on our congressman for further information. The proposed sidewalk, curb and gutter repair program was discussed at the January 30m Public Works Committee meeting Steve Klotz attended this meeting to provide additional input. Two handouts regarding the program were distributed to the council. Sandblasting of the pool is completed. The cracks need to be grouted, a new slab poured, and curing time must be allowed throughout the process. Some painting will be done inside the pool building after lifeguards are hired. Rick Musson distributed and presented a report on the Police Department's Year 2000 Activities. The communications officers logged 8,084 calls for service, including fire, ambulance, traffic stops/complaints, theR, and criminal mischie£ Two officers were hired in January and February and spent twelve weeks in the Field Training Program. One officer resigned in September, and another was hired in November. The officers attended 408 hours of training, not including the 480 basic training hours accrued by Officer Langve. City Council Committee of the Whole minutes of February 6, 2001 The Laurel Police Reserves worked 2,662.5 hours during 2000. There were nine reserves at the beginning of the year and fifteen reserves on the roster at the end of the year. Each reserve officer is required to serve a minimum of eight hours per month. During the first quarter of 2000, the reserves averaged 61 hours per person, or 20.3 hours per month. Chief Musson thanked Lorraine Craig for her volunteer service to complete various clerical duties for the Police Department. Steve Klotz presented information regarding the street, curb and gutter repair program. The program will be on the February 20th agenda for council information and discussion. Larry plans to schedule Nathan Tubergen for that meeting to provide additional information regarding the financial aspect of the program. Any questions regarding the program should be directed to Larry or Steve in order to allow adequate time to research the information. Montana State Games requested to use Riverside Park for the 2K, 4K and 5K runs for two days during the Games in June. Two other activities are already scheduled to take place in Laurel. The City of Laurel would be indemnified on their insurance policy. The meeting adjourned at 6:51 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Cindy Allen City Council Secretary
