HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 606BEING M~ ORDINANCE SUPPLAT~ENTING THE TRAFFIC ORDINANCES OF THE CITY 0F LAUREL TO CONFORM WITH STATE OF MONTANA LAWS REQUIRING ~0TORCYCLE OPERATORS A~D PASSENGERS TO ~¢EAR PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR AND DECLARING IT TO BE AN Ek~ERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAUREL: WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Montana has enacted laws requiring operators and passengers of motorcycles to wear protective headgear and providing penalty for violation, and WHEREAS, to implement the laws of Montana pertaining to protective headgear for operators and for passengers of motor- cycles the City of Laurel deems it in the best interests of its inhabitants and of p~olic safety to have its Traffic ordinances conform to state law pertaining thereto, and WHEREAS, the City Council deems it an emergency situation for public safety for immediate enactment of such an ordinance, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY 0F LAUREL: That the Traffic Ordinances of the City of Laurel be supplemented by the addition of the following: (1) The operator and passenger, if any, of shy motor- cycle operated upon the streets of the City of Laurel shall wear protective headgear upon the head. Such headgear shall meet standards established by the department of Justice of the State of Montana. (2) A person convicted of section (1) shall be fined five dollars ($5). An emergency having been heretofore declared this ordinance is effective immediately upon its passage. PASSED and approved this day of July, 1974.
