The League of Women Voters of Billings (LWVB) is seeking nominations for its first Joan Harwood Galles Making Democracy Work Award. The award to honor an individual for community activism will be presented Thursday, February 27, 6 -8pm during LWVB's 60 Birthday Party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The League of Women Voters has impacted national issues for 97 years and locally for 60 years. We want to honor that tradition and individuals who share our passion for making a difference for democracy in Yellowstone County. This first - time award will honor one individual who has, in the League tradition, helped to make our community a more fair, safe, and free place — where democracy lives! Joan Harwood Galles was the first president of LWVB in 1953. At our party, we will hear of her passion starting voter education and registration programs. Nominations are open to any person who contributes or has contributed to our county in making democracy work in a meaningful way. A woman or man may be nominated by a friend, colleague, or organization. The application form is enclosed or can be downloaded from the LWVB website (www.iwvbillings.orq).
