Meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m. by Chair Judy Goldsby. Attendance: Shirley
McDermott, Judy Goldsby, Janice Lehman, Linda Frickel, Marcia Hofner, Monica
Plecker
Minutes for August 5, 2013 were approved as submitted.
REPORTS:
Monica and Heidi Jensen had met with Steve Zeier and Patty Nordlund of EBIRDBIRD.
They may be able to provide assistance in developing our master plan.
Dean Rankin and Monica met to discuss information necessary to create a Special
Improvement District (SID) for Washington Street. A petition from the property owners
and an engineering study are required. LURA may be involved after costs are developed
and reviewed.
Laurel Alive ended the season well but there is a need to recruit new young
entrepreneurs.
FACADE IMPROVEMENT APPLICATIONS:
First National Pawn. Motion was made by Shirley, seconded by Linda to recommend the
application for approval to the Laurel City Council. Motion passed unanimously. Final
approval is required by the Council because the request exceeds LURA's authority.
Bling & Videos.. Motion was made by Shirley, seconded by Linda to approve the
application. Motion passed unanimously.
Alpha Omega Building. Motion was made by Linda, seconded by Shirley to recommend
the application for approval to the Laurel City Council. Motion passed unanimously.
Final approval is required by the Council because the request exceeds LURA's authority.
Laurel Revitalization Group. It was determined that there was a conflict of interest by
three of the five voting members of the board and the request was forwarded to the
Council for approval.
LURA will return to our winter meeting schedule. We will meet the third Monday of the
month, and call special meetings as necessary the first Monday of the month during
winter months. We will also return to 11 a.m. lunch meetings. Our next meeting will be
held at Emma's October 21 at 11 a.m.
