HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 08.13.2013 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees August 13, 2013 Attending Bruce McCullough Alan Klebe Rose Marie Kline Nancy Schmidt Dixie Feller Minutes The minutes for July 2013 were read. Alan Kleve motioned the minutes be adopted as presented, Rose Marie Kline seconded the motion. Motion passed. Correspondence A donation in the amount of $1,000 was received from Bonnie Preikszas as a memorial for her late husband Otto J. Preikszas. Circulation Report Traffic: up 3.77 %; circulation: all items circulated totaled 4,451 (including 172 eBooks), book circulation was up 17.23 %, media circulation was up 2.61 %, eBook checkouts for this month was 4.45% of total book circulation; computers: internet use was down 2 %, children's use was down 18.19 %, wi -fi use down 18 %; patron cards: city patrons made up 63.91% of all issued cards, county patrons accounted for 30.02% of registered cards holders, and nonresident county patrons are at 6.1 %. Old Business Interns Valerie Nauman and Lori Hodges completed their training on July 31 with the final Summer Reading Program. Both ladies will be missed by the Library staff but we all feel that this was a great opportunity to begin a partnership between the school libraries and the public library. This idea will be presented to the Laurel School Board at a later date. A patron has asked that the computer time limits be raised to prevent being booted from the system. The current time limit is set to one hour with the ability to ask for increases up to another hour. After some discussion it was decided that the time limits would remain as they are with the possible increase. Those patrons that have experienced being booted from the system may need to be reminded that they should heed the warning the computer gives them before it shuts down. Kristi Negrette held a book signing at the library on Wednesday, August 10 for her book "Take Me With You ". 15 children, along with their parents, attended the reading of the book at 10:30 am. James Southworth will read from his book, "The Road Taken: the life story of James O. Southworth ", on Wednesday, September 18` at 1:30 pm. The Summer Reading Program has been well attended this year. We had 175 reading programs handed out with 59 prizes handed out to date. We will continue to accept returned signup sheets until school starts. New Business The library has a cupboard full of old National Geographic magazines that are dated from 1919 to 2003. Library staff feels that the space could be used for other items of importance and would like to give the magazines away. One of our patrons has expressed the desire to take the magazines if we decide to give them up. After some discussion it was decided that the magazines should find a new home. Dixie motioned that the library give the magazines to Bill Hanson. Rose Marie seconded the motion, motion passed. Nancy stated that it was time again to sign and send the State Aid Agreement to the Montana State Library. This agreement allows the library to receive funds through the State Library from the legislature each year for library development. Bruce McCullough, Board Chair, and Nancy are required to sign the agreement before submitting it to the Montana State Library. Other Bruce questioned whether Nathan was going to be able to attend Board meetings in the coming months. Nancy stated that she would contact Nathan to see what his attendance status would be next month. Addressing the Board Next regular meeting September 10, 2013 Dixie motioned that the meeting be adjourned, Bruce seconded the motion. Motion passed.
