Members Present: Doug Poehls Pat Kimmet Bill Mountsier Clete Knaub Others Present: Jan Faught Rick Musson Dan Koch Discussion: for Future Emergency Service Meetings Laurel Police, Ambulance, and Fire Departments are very important for the safety of the city and the city's growth in the future. Chairman Doug Poehls and committee members would like to hear reports of accomplishments and concerns and what kind of trends are being seen within their departments. The committee has worked on issues of fireworks, chickens, and dog ordinances and expressed the importance of working with these three emergency services of the city. Clete expressed the importance of the city being equipped and ready for any large emergency. The city is bisected with the railroad and has the interstate and refinery. It is good for the city to have communication with the public, schools, refinery and railroad. The Emergency Services Committee has a member, Pat Kimmet, from the refinery but at the present does not have a member from the railroad. Chief Musson stated he attends a meeting each month with the Local Emergency Planning Committee in Billings at Fire Station #1. There was discussion about 5 and 10 year plans for each emergency service. It is important to know the aging of vehicles, equipment and facilities. The committee will find it informational to know the number of repairs that an older vehicle needs and that they use even older vehicles as backup. Each department is frequently told there is not enough funds in the budget for a new vehicle and one cannot be purchased. The committee is not interested in statistics, such as number of calls. They want to hear about trends with drugs or vandalism within the community. Clete suggested that the public be kept informed about the City Police, Ambulance and Fire departments and the need to keep equipment current. The committee can be an advocate and present these needs to the council. Respectfully, Neva Hall
