CREATING A VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE SERVICE
FOR THE CITY OF LAUREL.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council. Of the City of Laurel,
Montana, that there is hereby added to the Laurel Municipal
Code Chapter 20.06 as follows:
Section 20.06.010. There is hereby created a Volunteer
Ambulance Servicer the membership of which shall consist of
not more than fifteen (15) persons. The Volunteer Ambulance
Service shall be made up of persons who are at the time of
their appointment residents of the City. Each member shall
be in good physical condition and of good character and not
less than eighteen (18) years of age.
Section 20.06.020. Appointments to the Volunteer Am-
bulance Service shall be made by the Mayor upon recommenda-
tion of the Public Safety Committee for a term of one (1)
year, provided that any member may be discharged at any time
(without or with cause, and without a hearing) by the Mayor
or upon recommendation of the Public Safety Committee.
Section 20.06.030. Probationary period. Each new
member of the Volunteer Ambulance Service shall serve Qn
probation a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of twelve
(12) months following the date of appointment. During said
period of probation he shall be a member on probation and
shall complete the program for training members of the Volun-
teer Ambulance Service.
Section 20.06.040. By-laws. The Volunteer Ambulance
Service may adopt its own by-laws and rules or regulations
and any and all amendments thereof shall at all times be
subject to approval by the Mayor and City Council and shall
not conflict with any provision of this article~ and shall
be subordinate at all times to the ordinances of the City
and executive regulations and orders of the Mayor.
Section 20.06.050. Compensation. No member of the
Volunteer Ambulance Service shall receive any compensation
from the City for his services as a member of the Volunteer
Ambulance Service excepting as may be provided from time
to time by resolution of the Mayor and City Council.

Section 20.06.060. Uniforms. The members of the Volunteer
Ambulance Service shall furnish their own uniforms and other
necessary equipment, without reimbursement from the City,
excepting only to the extent, if any, specifically provided
for in the annual appropriation ordinance of the City.
Section 20.06.070. Officers--election and terms. The
officers of the Volunteer Ambulance Service shall consist
of a Chief Attendant, Assistant Chief Attendant, and such
other officers as shall be provided for in its by-laws, who
shall be elected, subject to approval of the Mayor, from the
nonprobationary membership of the Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Section 20.06.080. Financial accounts. The financial
accounts of the Volunteer Ambulance Service shall be subject
to audit any time the Mayor or City Council may designate.
All donations to or for the ambulance service shall be deposited
with the City Treasurer.
Section 20.06.090. Insurance. Each Volunteer AmSulance
Service member shall maintain and keep in force an accident
and medical insurance coverage. Premiums for said insurance
shall be paid by the Volunteer Ambulance Service without reim-
bursement from the City.
Section 20.06.100. Waiver of liability. Each present
member of the Volunteer Ambulance Service shall promptly after
being appointed as a member of said unit, prior to assuming
his duties, execute and deliver to the City Clerk an instrument
in form to be approved by the City Attorney, releasing the City
from all liability for any injury or death of such member
in the line of duty as a member of the Volunteer Ambulance
Serwice, except only such liability, if any, as shall be
attributed to gross negligence on the part of the City.
