HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaurel Urban Renewal Agency Minutes 05.06.2013 Laurel Urban Renewal Agency May 6, 2013 Meeting called to order at 11 AM; those in attendance were Linda Frickel, Shirley McDermott, Marcia Hafner, Dean Ranken, Heidi Jensen, Monica Plecker, Janice Lehman, Judy Goldsby, Steve Arveschong, and guest, James Leer. Minutes: Minutes were accepted as written. Guest: James Leer of 45 Degrees North in Bozeman addressed the group on what his company offers. He showed brochures from Ennis and Bozeman, Montana, projects they completed that encompassed branding, business directory, presentation folders, and marketing. James has been working with Monica on signage for the Laurel Bus Service, and the group asked that he bring a presentation on what he could offer for the City of Laurel. Reports: Big Sky EDA Steve Arveschong of Big Sky EDA reported on upcoming events: On Wednesday May 8 there is a Regional Energy Forum, Also on the calendar are a Target Industry Report, and Workforce Development. City CAO / City Planner Monica reported that there was no new application submitted for Technical Assistance or Facade Improvement. She also checked on an inquiry from Janice Lehman regarding striping on South 4 It was previously thought that striping was to be done following the completion of roadwork, however, there is nothing planned that anyone was aware of. Chamber: Marcia will be attending a meeting beginning on Wednesday in Great Falls at the Montana Office of Tourism. This meeting will include development of a new logo for the State of Montana, as well as ideas for encouraging tourism. Laurel Alive: Dates have been set for the 2013 Rock the Block. There will be 7 events this year beginning June 7 and continuing thru August. Bands and food vendors have been secured as well. Board Discussion: Shirley shared a BID (Business Improvement District) proposal that was submitted by SoDo Consulting. As the proposal stated a cost of $4,000.00 per month with an eight month maximum, it was felt that this matter should be taken into consideration at a later date. Additionally, it was agreed that we don't have services to offer the business owners and property owners at this time. Shirley advised that we will begin the summer schedule with meetings on the 1s` and 3r Mondays. Our next meeting will be May 20 There being no further business, meeting was adjourned
