Laurel Urban Renewal Agency
March 18, 2013
A regular scheduled meeting was held at the Owl Cafe at 11 A.M. Those in attendance
were Linda Frickel Dean Rankin, Shirley McDermott, Judy Goldsby, Monica Plecker,
Heidi Jensen and Daniel Klein (arriving at 11:45) Marsha Haffner, representing the
Chamber, and Mayor Ken Olson.
Minutes:
Minutes were accepted as written.
Reports and Discussions:
Workforce Training:
Heidi advised that she and Monica would be attending a Workforce Training Program on
Tuesday, March 26 This program is offered by Big Sky EDA.
Facade Improvement Grant:
Monica showed the group the condensed Facade Improvement Grant Resource Guide. It
was agreed that this was a valuable and very well done merging of many pages into a two
sided form that quickly shows a potential applicant the grant criteria.
Technical Assistance Application:
A Technical Assistance Project Application was submitted by Renee Studiner and Mardie
Spalinger of Covert Cleaning, Inc. Their application is for the redesign of the front of a
newly acquired property at 11 Wyoming
company. A motion was made by Judy and seconded t by Linda to approve the grant
application. Motion carried unanimously. g
Laurel Outlook:
Heidi has been contacted by the Outlook requesting information for printing the
accomplishments of LURA. It was agreed that all "good" publicity should be
encouraged. Judy was contacted by Gloria Western regarding facade improvements they
would like to do on their building. She was referred to the Chamber or City offices.
MRL:
Heidi submitted a letter from MRL regarding her application to lease railroad right-of-
way by the City for use as a parking lot, green space and a bulk water filling station.
Heidi was advised that MRL intends to expand their tracks thru town, and after might
consider the application further.
Lighting:
Heidi advised that monies in the budget had been found to move the four antique light
posts on West Main. It was discussed as to their best placement; some suggested two at
Town Square and two at the Caboose. Ace Electric will be contacted for their evaluation.
Dean bas also been speaking with Clay Fisher regarding LED lighting under the awning
over the mural at Town Square.
Population Forecast:
Shirley advised that the Population and Enrollment Forecast study by Dr. Jerome N
McKibben will be presented on March 25` at 6PM in the old Middle School.
Laurel Alive:
Linda advised that there will be a meeting of Laurel Alive on Thursday, March 2 ". The
purpose of the meeting is to set the dates for Rock the Block for 2013. She stressed the
need to more participation and assistance on this project.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned.
