Board Meeting Minutes
The Meeting was held on March 21' 2013 at Guadalajara. In attendance were: Executive Board Members:
President - John Mataisz, VP- Jared Kaiser, Secretary Joanne Flynn and her assistant Marda Hafner. Directors: Clyde
Barton, Tim Bronk, Janelle Crowley, Heidi Jensen, Jennifer Ries and Alternate Joe Statser. Members: Renee Studiner
and Mayor Ken Olson.
John called the meeting to order.
The minutes were approved: moved to approve - Tim, 2" - Joe.
The finandal report was approved and bills were presented for payment: Joanne explained that Laurel Alive currently
has no money to pay this bill, so the Chamber will. Moved to approve - Jared, 2n - Clyde. Tim Bronk suggested that
profit & loss report each month at the meeting - passed - Janelle, 2n Heidi.
NEW BUSINESS
• New Members - Joanne accepted an offer by Ziplocal to trade a 1 /2 page yellow page ad and a
highlighted white page listing for a membership.
• New Visitors Guide is at the printers.
• Donation to Museum - Joanne presented a donation to the Laurel Museum from the Lucius
Nutting estate. Ken Olson brought up much discussion about what happened to Laurel's museum
and how it could be brought back. A committee was formed to look into this and do a cost analysis.
Members volunteering were: Ken Olson who volunteered to chair the committee, Joanne, Clyde,
Jared. Joanne stated that that the current museum board of directors should also be included.
• Laurel Outlook ad - Joanne approved a $35 ad for March Madness. It was also moved to
approve a half page, full color ad in the Explorer for $275. Joe -moved to approve, 2 Janelle.

• July 4 Meeting with July 4 Partners - Joanne reported on the results of that meeting. She
also asked that a Chamber committee be formed. Volunteering for that committee were Janelle,
Ken and Joe. Joanne suggested offering a prize of $25.00 to the Winner of the Parade Theme
contest. Moved and agreed by all. The length of parade entries was discussed. Decision was made
that the limits would be 50 feet long and 14 feet high. Other discussions centered around
volunteers to "police" the parade, requiring decorations on the entries, a possible conflict with a
baseball tournament, and the Run.
• Microsoft Lunch & Learn -_Marcia presented the Seminar that the Chamber will be hosting on
Windows 8. She asked for $100 budget for advertising and beverages. Moved Heidi, 2n - Clyde.

OLD BUSINESS
• Spotlight on Business - Always looking for new.
• School Request - The school requested a $500 donation to help pay for the population study.
Joe & Marcia had gone to the meeting and Joe commented. Clyde moved to approve, r - Heidi.

• LURA Report - Marcia reported that a series of articles in the Outlook was discussed on LURA and
the grants given. Including a feature on the history of some of Laurel's buildings. (Covert Cleaning
has received the Technical Assistance Grant). Laurel Alive is havina a meetina this Thursday
at 6 pm. ? ??
OPEN FORUM
• Chamber Choices Income - The Laurel Chamber again received an "A" rating from Montana
Chamber Choices and a monetary reward.
• Mail Chimp - Marcia reported that the Laurel Business Focus Newsletter is now being hosted by
Mail Chimp. It allows the Chamber to mail multiple emails at once, see who is or is not opening
them, and is free. There is some problem with the opens reportina and (OUT) She asked
that everyone who was at the meetina (Out) make sure they allowed pictures and opened the
email.

July 4 committee - Committee will meet again next week and send all recommendations to the board for a
vote (via email). (Jim Taylor, Janelle Crowley, Mona Rae Adickes, Dan Dart & wife, Ken Olson, Joanne & Marcia)
