POLICE, AMBULANCE AND FIRE COMMITTEES
FEBRUARY 9, 1999 7:00 P.M.

Ken Olson opened the meeting by talking about the new committee system that is
being put into place in the next couple of months. The committee discussed how
issues could be solved under the new system.
Dirk started the Police Committee by asking Ken to report on what the city needs
to do about RV parking. Ken stated that he has talked to Joe Leckie about this
and he has said that our current ordinunces adequately cover this problem.
Chief Musson mentioned that the statistics regarding junk vehicles is included in
his monthly report to the council. He would like the committee to consider
chunging the length of the radius that vehicles need to be moved. The chief also
talked about putting an article in the Laurel Outlook to inform the public about
issues from the Police, Fire und Ambulance Departments. Miles recommended
using Channel 9 for this also.
Miles Walton opened the Ambulunce Committee meeting. He asked Ambulunce
,Director Sue: Blaskovich und Assistant Director Jan Stunford about the new
bylaws for the ambulunce service und their reserves. Sue and Jun would like the
bylaws to be approved so that their new crewmembers could have them. Jan
discussed what changes were made to the bylaws. Miles recommended that the
bylaws go to Joe for review und be put on the agenda for approval at the next
council meeting.
Ken opened the Fire Committee meeting. Rob Harris brought up the subject of
dead spots that the department has encountered in certain areas around Laurel.
Discussion followed about using our current repeater to help with this. Chief
Musson stated that he is looking at moving the repeater to improve reception for
the Police Department and also that the repeater can only be used for one
frequency. Ken would like to see some kind of survey from the Police, Fire and
Ambulance Departments on where these dead spots are in the Laurel area. Chief
Jim Stevens stated that he is working on this with Chief Musson. Ken also
discussed the 2000 census and what changes that could bring to the Fire
Department.
Chief Musson also talked about future planning for the departments regarding
building projects and future land use in our city shop area.
Ken asked each department head to make a structure of their organization to give
to our new committee members and also for their ideas for where they would like
their departments.
There was discussion on how restrictive our agenda for this committee could be
and what issues should be brought before us.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
