COUNCIL CHAMBERS PRESENT: Ken Olson Norman Orr Bud Johnson Jim Stevens Russ Lowe Charlie Pratt Dirk ICa'oil Miles Walton Kick Musson Jan Stanford Jack Gabfian Ken opened the meeting by asking each department head for an update on space and their departmental structure. Discussion regarding the structure of the Police DePartment followed. Rick also discussed how cramped the department is for storage space for evidence and seized cars. A place for animal control storage is also badly needed. Rick stated that the state transportation building could be for sale soon and would be an excellent spot for these services. The department needs some direction as to where the committee and city council would like this to go. Jan stated that they are looking at other structures in town to buy or lease to expand the space for the Ambulance Department. Miles would like the department heads to work together to come up with a common building plan. He would like to see the three departments share a viable space for each instead of having three buildings and three different sets of costs. Discussion on having department heads give the committee a list of their needs and have us work toward the 2000 budget process to present a building plan for emergency services to the Budget and Finance Committee. Jan also discussed the job desc~tions for the ambulance crew. The job descriptions will be on the council agenda on March 16 . Discussion about the Fire Department's report on taking over the ambulance service in Billings, how that affects Laurel, and what we need to bring before the committee being formed by the Billings City Council. Jim discussed the structure &the Fire Department. He informed the committee that the contracts for the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and Airport Authority are up again this year. He would like the Fire Committee to look at these to have the contracts ready for the council in May. He commended the department heads for working together on issues. Discussion on leasing of police cars and presenting the risk management plans for the refinery and railroad to the committee. Ken asked the committee if the meeting date could be changed to the fourth Monday of each month. There was no objection. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on April 26t~ at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Dirk Kroll
