HomeMy WebLinkAboutEmergency Services Committee Minutes 07.26.1999Emergency Services Committee 7-26-99 Present: Ken Olson Smokey Staudinger STAFF: Rick Musson, Police Chief Jim Stevens, Fire Chief Jan Stanford, Ambulance Director AUDIENCE: Dan Sanders Ambulance: Jan reported on the progress of policy and procedures. She handed out a rough drain, stating that there would be some changes. Jan also talked about hewing some new ambulances in the area. One ambulance fully equipped would be about $85,000. Ken said that he would help in setting up a meeting with Dr. Vaunice. Fire: Jim went over mutual aid agreements with Cenex, Billings, and Park City stating that each entity covered it's own expenses except with Cenex foam- the requesting agency would bear the cost. Jim also said that he and 2nd Asst. Chief Steve Wegner are assisting Rimrock Vista with the site location and design of a 10,000 gallon water tank. l~t Asst. Chief Terry Ruff and Jim are also currently working with D.N.R.C. on location of a dry hydrant near Bolenske Subdivision. Jim stated that he would have a report on the training session with MMIA Representative Bob Worthington at the next meeting. Jim also said that during the state volunteer fire convention, he saw an imager for the fire service. He is going to look into it and bring hack more information. Police: Rick reported that the drug dog, Bruno, had unexpectedly passed away. Replacing the dog would cost about 8 to 10 thousand dollars with 5 thousand for lodging. They may be looking for a dual purpose dog, attack and drag dog. When asked about requirements for the present, Rick said that Billings and Yellowstone County have dogs that could be used. Rick reported that they are shorthanded for dispatching. They are looking to fill the spot. The COPS grant ha~ had an extension until July 16. No further information as of yet. Smokey asked how long the academy is. Rick explained that it is 12 weeks. Smokey asked if the academy graduate has to stay on the Laurel Police Force. Rick said that there Emergency Services Committee, Page 2 is a law passed in the last legislature that addresses this and he w'fll look into it and bring hack the information to the committee. Rick brought up available space for evidence, animal control, and storage. The state land was again discussed. Rick told the committee about a mobile data computer system for police cars. It has a price tag of about $6000. Rick stated that this was for future consideration, not necessarily for now. He was unsure if there was a system for ambulances but thought that there might be for fire. Rick discussed the positive attitude of the staffmeeting and Ken stated that the staffinput was great. There was discussion on how the relations between City Hall and the Police Dept. have been improving. Ken said that the city is supportive of the department and he hoped that with the P.O.R.S. pension program and additional education that longevity in the department could be reached. Rick said that budget items could also help longevity. Ken stated that it was going to be a tough year with many hard decisions for the budget committee. Ken brought up discussion on Y2K. He asked that the department heads could look at their department and see ifY2K could present any difficulties. They need to report back to the committee any anticipated actions that their department would take. There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned. ,/Ken Olson /~
