On October 6, there will be an emergency evacuation drill at 6:00 pm and at 6:30 pm there will be an open house at the safety complex. On Friday, October 8, the fire prevention program will be presented at the schools. Jim reported that staffing was at 34 at the present time, There is an advertisement in the paper for an opening. There was discussion on staffmg. Gary Temple asked about female applicants. Jim stated that all applicants are put through the same kiting process. Gary asked about an update on the alcohol issue. Jim stated that the department is working with Bob Worthington and MMIA and will have something to bring before the committee. Ambulance Department: Director Jan Faught talked about the proposed rate changes. (See attached) Norm moved and Smokey seconded to approve the changes. Discussion followed and the motion passed. Jan reported to the committee that she and Jay Martin are going to be certified as instructors and will put on an EMT course soon. Jan brought up two staffing positions; vehicle maintenance officer and education/training officer. (See attached) Norm moved and Smokey seconded that upon approval of Budget and Finance, the Emergency Services Co .n?.rnittee recommends approval of the newpositinns. Discussion followed and the motion passed. There was some discussion on a new ambulance. There was also discussion on involvement with the Bi/lings Emergency Medical Services. Police Department: Chief Rick Musson said that he was pleased with the primary budget report. He is working on the issue of having new officers that require academy training to be contracted to the City of Laurel for three years. He will bring something for the committee to view at the next meeting. The police dog issue was discussed. Smokey moved and Norm seconded to have Chief Musson look into the reasons for the City of Laurel to have it's own dog. After discussion, Rick stated that if the committee felt that they wanted him to look into it, he would. But if the committee felt there was no support for it, he would look at other options. It was stated that without information, the committee would not be able to see the value but they did support the idea of researching the issue and br'mging it back for further discussion. The motion passed. Rick stated that if the old ambulance is available, he could use it. Rick will be going to a school on November 13. There was discussion ora commun/cation repeater site. Rick will bring back more information as it becomes available. Miscellaneous: Fire Chief Jim Stevens thanked Cenex and the Cenex Fire Chief for the training opportunity at the Cenex fire tra/ning grounds.
