Jim thanked the police for the professionalism at the accident on the highway. Jim brought up discussion on space and future expansion. Rob Harris and Darrel McGillen are putting together a proposal for the committee's consideration in regards to risk management. Police Sergeant Mike Zuhowski said the patrol car that was budgeted for should be in soon. Jail issue was discussed. Mike stated that Start Langve is the newly hired officer. The selection process for the tenth officer is underway. Mike informed the committee that Laurel did not receive the grant for a resource officer but we are still under consideration for it at a later date. Mike also stated that they are testing for reserve positions. They have 9 reserve officers at this time and 12 have applied for new positions. Ambulance Ambulance Director Jan Faught thanked Laurel for the opportunity to send Dan Koch, Jr. to Florida for a technician school. First Responder class is presently underway. EMT-B refresher course is starting Feb. 28. Jan reported that the third batteary corrected the radio problem and that I.C.E. installed a new radio at no cost. Jan reported the need for space for the ambulance department. Jan noted a safety hazard of ice building up on the north entrance of the F.A.P. Complex. Ken asked for any input fi.om the audience on any issues. Chief Stevens informed the committee members that the City of Laurel had hired a fire inspector and that his name is Jim Stevens. Ken brought up that the Budget and Finance Committee is requesting a mid-tarm budget report fi.em each emergency service department. The Budget and Finance Committee asked that the report be given on Feb. 15 at the regular council meeting. Ken asked Sergeant Zuhowski to have Chief Musson prepare a report on the school he is attending this week. Ken stated that he will have a report an the Second Class City requirements in regards to the Fire Deparianent at the next meeting. There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned.
