Dear Mayor or City Manager:
CITY FO LAUREL
You are cordially invited to attend our annual Governor's Conference on Emergency
Management. The Conference will be held in Helena, at the Best Western Colonial
Hotel. This annual event is designed to bring together our local Disaster & Emergency
Services (DES) Coordinators and elected officials from all across Montana.
Our theme for the conference is "Fires 2000: Lessons for the Future". Invited
distinguished guests include Governor-Elect Judy Martz, Governor of Montana, and
the Director FEMA Region VIII. Other attendees include members of the Montana
Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), state and federal agencies, U. S.
Army Reservists and National Guard Personnel and interested private sector
representatives.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Montana Association of Counties (MACo) and
DES. Workshops and presentations occur throughout the week. MACo begins their
conference on Tuesday, February 27, 2001. The traditional Governor's Conference on
Emergency Management will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, and
concludes on Thursday, March 1 at 5 p.m. Governor-Elect Martz has been invited to
speak at the luncheon on Wednesday. (See the attached draft agenda for a schedule of
events.)
Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27 and run through noon
on Thursday, March 1st. There will be a "no host social" on Wednesday evening in the
Colonial Natatorium.
We hope that your schedule will permit you to attend the conference and related
activities. Your spouse/guest(s) are welcome to attend all conference functions. Please
return the enclosed registration form to Dan McGowan by February 9, 2001. Your
points of contact at DES are Dan McGowan or myself at 406-841-3911.
