Old Business
Nathan reported that the fundraiser held for the Foundation brought in $1,042.96. Nathan has opened a
temporary bank account for the Foundation so it could be used to pay for fees relating to starting the foundation.
There will be 3 signers on the account: Nathan Baillet, Clara Killebrew, and Michelle Larned.
Since the Foundation fundraiser was such a success the idea that we should hold another book sale for the
Foundation was discussed. Nathan motioned that a book sale be held November 1, 2, & 3 as a benefit for the
Foundation. Alan seconded the motion; motion passed.
Nancy reported that the final cost of our subscription to Heritage Quest and Ancestry — Library Edition would be
$1,308 not the original $1,600 quoted by Missoula Library Director Honore Bray. This is a significant savings
for the library.
New Business
Nancy reported that EnvsionWare has been working great at preventing unwanted and unnecessary printing by
patrons. The downside is that some of the younger patrons have figured out how to override the time limits
placed on their machines. Library staff will try to prevent patrons from authorizing their own time increases.
After further discussion, Board members expressed a desire to see patrons get a library card rather than just
being allowed to use a Guest Pass every day. Nancy stated that she would pass the information along to staff and
patrons.
The Laurel Medical Center /St. Vincent Healthcare donated a check to the library as part of their annual Share
Our Spirit employee giving campaign. The amount of the check was $2,968.00. After some discussion, Alan
motioned that the funds be given to the Library Foundation. Rose Marie seconded the motion; motion passed.
Election of officers for 12 -13 seats was held. Nathan motioned that Bruce be nominated as Board Chair, motion
was seconded by Alan. Motion passed. Dixie nominated Nathan for Vice- Chair, Alan seconded the motion.
Motion passed. Dixie volunteered as Federation Representative since she is also the President of the Federation.
Other
Bruce brought in a letter from the Laurel Library Trust with a check enclosed. Katherine Kucera had met with
Nancy regarding final distribution of Trust funds. The Laurel Library Trust was closing since there were no
longer any Laurel history books for sale. Katherine wanted to let us know that the final check would be sent to
the Laurel Public Library Foundation to help with startup costs. Nancy let Katherine know that this was very
acceptable to her and the Board. The check sent to Bruce was made out to the Laurel Public Library Foundation
for the amount of $3,001.64.
Nancy brought before the Board a request to purchase book shelved from Barjon's Books in Billings. After
discussion, it was decided that the shelves could be bought for $125 each if that is acceptable to the owner but
Nancy stated that she would try to get them for $100 each. A motion was made to purchase the book shelves for
$500 - $650 total by Alan. Nathan seconded the motion, passed.
