CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
MAY 16, 2000 6:30 P.M.

The Fire Department was scheduled to give a presentation at the pre-council meeting, but they
received a fire call just before the meeting began. Their presentation will either be given at the
end of the council meeting or will be rescheduled for a later date.
Congratulations were given to Mary Embleton and Joe Leckie on becoming grandparents, and
Mayor Rogers on becoming a great-grandfather recently.
Mary Embleton mentioned that the Spring BARS Seminar is scheduled for June 22na at the
Holiday Inn Grand in Billings. Reservations need to be made by May 17th.
Mary thanked the council and mayor for allowing her to attend the Clerks' Institute last week.
Liz Pratt presented Mary with the Employment Practices Liability Endorsement for employment
practices coverage with MMIA. Laurel is one of eight cities to take advantage of this coverage
with the MMIA.
Joe Leckie mentioned that the Branstetter case is close to settlement, and the City of Laurel has
only one outstanding legal action remaining.
Larry McCann stated tha~ ihe4th of July Committee meeting is Schfiduled for Thu?sday, May
18t~, at 7:00 p.m.
The YMCA will be running the recreation program and the swimming lesson program for the
City of Laurel. Alyson McMilan will be the manager, and the YMCA will pay the lifeguards for
the swimming lessons.
South Pond should be planted this week.
Bud Johnson asked if there would be opportunity to review the diagonal parking before it is
implemented. Larry agreed that it would be possible to do so.
Gary Temple thanked the council for the opportunity to attend the workshop Iast week.
Lauren Van Roekel complimented Larry and the crew for their efforts in cleaning up the alleys.
Gay Easton thanked Cal Cumin for his efforts with the Oversight Committee and for making
application for available CTEP grants.
Mayor Rodgers mentioned that Jim Steven's father-in-law and Jay Hatton's sister passed away
recently.
Mayor Rodgers stated that he would proclaim May 26th as Poppy Day during the council
meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
