Economic DEVELOPMENT rODf_o DATE: October 25, 2000 LCIz U Y-0 F FROM: Allan Cox, Program Officer LAUREL Mayors and County Commissioners SUBJECT: 1999 Population Estimates for Incorporated Places 1991-1998 Revised Population Estimates for Incorporated Places Enclosed are new population estimates for incorporated places for 1999 and revisions of the previously incorporated place population estimates for 1991 through 1998 as released by the U.S. Bureau of the Census. All previous population estimates for the years 1991-1998 should be discarded. At this time, intercensal population estimates are not prepared for unincorporated places or American Indian reservations. The population estimates are available electronically via the Census and Economic Information Center web site at http://commerce.state.mt.us/ceic/demog/estimate/pop or via the Census bureau's web site at http://www.census.gov. The intercensal population estimates are prepared through the Federal/State Cooperative for the Population Estimates (FSCPE). The Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana is the state's cooperating FSCPE agency. For more information contact Jim Sylvester at (406) 243-5113. If you need access to population estimates for other states, please contact the Census and Economic Information Center in the Montana Department of Commerce, or visit the Census Bureau's web site as listed above. Population estimates, as well as other socioeconomic data, are essential in planning, grant writing', environmental impact statements, revenue forecasting, federal assistance programs, market research and a variety of other applications required by governmental agencies and private sector firms. Population data for places from Census 2000 will not be available until spring of 2001.
