AVENUE, LAUREL, NR. 59844 (406) 628 4854 E-MAIL WMAHANI@JUNO.COM October 25, 2000 Mr. Charles Rodgers Mayor, City of Laurel Box 10 Laurel, MT. 59044 Dear Mayor Rodgers: Q 0 T 2 6 i0pp Dl CITYY aF LAUREL On July 1, IM, you and the city council honored me by allowing me to appear before the council to point out a very serious problem existing in our neighborhood. As you will recall, the city diverted the irrigation ditch at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Seventh Street West a number of years ago. The original irrigation ditch flowed South from this intersection. A culvert was installed by the city supposedly to handle the water flowing down this irrigation ditch. Unfortunately, 1k culvert installed was not sufficient t4 handle the water even when we received a moderate rain in the Northwest area of Laurel. Since the culvert installed by the City of Laurel was not of sufficient size, we have been flooded FTVE times. Pictures of this flooding were presented to the council showing the entire East side of the block encompassed by Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue between Fifth Street West and Sixth Street West. This most certainly is NOT a minor problem. You most assuredly remember the pictures presented to you and the council showing the eight to ten inches of water flowing though the back yard of the properties described above. At the time of this presentation, you and the entire city council assured me the city was planning to reroute and reinstall this drain culvert with one of adequate size to eliminate future flooding problems. In passing the above mentioned intersection, nothing appears to have been accomplished on this project. Surely the (3) years is sufficient time to have this project well under way and completed shortly. Therefore, information concerning the project would be appreciated, namely: 1. Has the preliminary planning of the project been completed? 2. Has the engineering of the project been completed? 3. Has a contract been assigned to an engineering firm for the project? 4. How soon will the project be completed? This information would be appreciated so the owners of the properties in this half block can be free of the flooding worries. An answer will be appreciated as soon as possible. Very truly yours,
