RE: Franchise Renewal Notification
Dear Mayor Olson:
Our records indicate that our cable television franchise for Laurel is due to expire on 9/17/2015.
Federal law governs renewal procedures. The Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 and the
Cable Television Consumer Protection Act of 1992 require that the Franchisee provide
notification to the Town of its intent to seek renewal 30 -36 months prior to the expiration of the
current franchise. Cablevision wishes to continue to provide service to Laurel; and by this letter,
and in accordance with federal regulations, is informing you of its intention to seek renewal of
the franchise.
The Cable Act also allows the parties to reach a mutually beneficial agreement for franchise
renewal through formal or informal negotiations. We seek to reach agreement using the informal
process again for the upcoming renewal.
We are proud to be able to serve the residents of Laurel and look forward to serving you in the
future. If you have any questions concerning this process, please contact me at 406 - 670 -3496 or
mshannon@cablevision.com.
Sincerely,
Melissa Shannon
