COUNCIL CHAMBERS
Public Input: Citizens may address the committee regarding any item of business that is not on the agenda. The duration
for an individual speaking under Public Input is limited to three minutes. While all comments are welcome, the committee
will not take action on any item not on the agenda.
The Emergency Services Committee meeting was called to order at 645 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024,
by Vice Chair, Jodi Mackay.
Members Present: Jodi Mackay, Vice Chair, Iry Wilke, Jamie Swecker, Council Member Michelle Mize
participated as a committee member to make a quorum.
Others Present: Police Chief Stan Langve, Fire Chief JW Hopper
General Items
Approval of the Minutes from April 22, 2024. Iry moved to approve the minutes. Jamie
seconded. Motion carried 4 - 0
2. Updates from Emergency Services Departments
Ambulance Director- Lyndy Gurchiek
absent but provided report
Fire Chief- JW Hopper
Responded to 35 total calls for report period. 367 total hours on calls.
Training — wildland and open water
Operating at 30 members
New fire truck request going through the process. Should be back in front of
council within the next few cycles.
Adding reflective features to command trucks and more lights on Squad 5
New radios in Engine 1
Hose testing complete
New Reader Board is in Belgrade. MT Ironworks will weld on when ready.
However, Support 1 is having engine issues. Will get checked out at Laurel Ford
before securing Reader Board to vehicle.
DNRC staffing will begin once rain stops and it gets hot.
Had meeting with CHS regarding mutual aid. No big changes but discussed
exhausting all resources before reaching out to CHS
Police Chief- Stan Langve
Have seen slight decrease in numbers. Probably due low staffing.
Three proposals for city wide surveillance sent to Mayor.
Continue to see Fentanyl / OpiQid on the rise in conjunction with organized crime
Increase in gang activity with juveniles doing "dirty work"
Running short staffed — officers at Academy are doing well, SRO's released from
school soon. Potential applicant in pool but need Field Training Officer available.

3. Next meeting will be Monday, June 24, 2024 at 6:00pm in Council Chambers
4. June I" —Reserve Officer Graduation —time and location TBA
5. June 7`" — Firefighter Memorial Run
6. June 8"' — Firefighter Memorial Ceremony and luncheon
