DOUBLE TREE, INC. - GRANT UPDATE:
Julie Jones reported on the homebuyers assistance program. Nineteen applicants
have applied to the program, but not all of them have found homes. Five
applicants have been approved by the committee for assistance in purchasing a
home.
She reported three units have been closed out with the HOME funding. The average
amount of assistance per home has been $11,658.00.
The closeout on the CDBG project is still pending. There is $5,658.00 left that
was to be used for demolition. The city was unable to obtain permission from the
State Historic Preservation Office to help fund the demolition of an old grain
elevator and the surrounding building. They are now pending approval from CDBG
to use the remaining funds to help improve the parking lot at the Senior Center
and provide handicapped access to that facility.
Julie stated that because of all the interest, the city can apply again for the
CDBG project next fall with applications due in October. Applications for the
HOME grant are due in September.
Mayor Rogers stated that both programs are very beneficial.
