Board of Trustees July 13, 2004
Attending
Peggy Freund (presiding), Gail Brice, Clara Killebrew, Bonnie Latham and Peggy
Arnold attended the meeting.
Minutes
The minutes of the June 8 and the June 24 special meetings were read and
approved.
Correspondence
None
Circulation
Traffic for June 2004 was 2,088 up 27% from June 2003. Circulation was 4,025
up 41% from June 2003.
Old Business
Peggy sent a disk with our records to the shared catalog and has completed the
mapping form. Patron cards, receipt printer, forms printer, and a scanner have
been ordered. The Laurel Public Library will receive a distribution of music CD's
as part of a class action law suit against the recording industry. There may be a
second session of guitar lessons offered by Bob Engel. Summer reading is going
well. Peggy will submit a list of possible revenue sources and a list of Capital
Items to Nathan Turbergon, City Finance Administrator.
New Business
Edward Jones would like to use the community room for classes each Thursday
evening in August. The classes will be free with a small fee for materials. The
Library Board approved the use of the community room by Edward Jones. A
motion was passed to hire Michelle Taylor as library clerk and to have her start
as soon as the required paper work is completed. Election of officers was held at
this time. A motion was passed to re -elect the current officers. Chairman of the
Board is Margaret Freund, Vice Chairman is Gail Brice, and Federation Advisory
Board member is Katherine Kucera.

1. Ask voters to pass a special mill levy MCA 22 -1- 304(2) to free up some appropriated funds from the
general fund to continue library service at it present level. Keep in mind that library employees and
Library Board Members can not campaign for these elections.
2. Annex more areas into the City to broaden our tax base.
3. Might consider a local area Library District if able to maintain local control.
4. Set up a coffee kiosk and have proceeds go to the general fund.
Capital Items List
1. Repair parking lot and sidewalks before someone gets hurt.
2. Replace carpet, furniture, and shelving.
