HomeMy WebLinkAboutCemetary Commission Minutes 11.14.2011 CEMETERY COMMISSION MINUTES Monday, November 14, 2011 5:30 P.M. at City Hall MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Chuck Rodgers LuAnne Engh Wally Hall Lee Barndt OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Sprinkler System: There was discussion on the sprinkler system. Cathy stated Matt, Bruce and Bud met with the engineer from Great West. They discussed the type of sprinkler system the city wants and about the two phases of the project. Phase 1 will be getting the new line from the pump to the cemetery and Phase 2 will be the actual sprinkler system. The engineer will incorporate a way to water the boulevard trees on the south side of the road and also a system for the area around the shop. Chuck stated there is approximately $150,600 in the sprinkler fund. We are hoping to get started on Phase 1 soon. Shed for Cemetery: At a council workshop, members questioned whether it would be feasible to add on to the cemetery shop building instead of purchasing a shed. Chuck received info from two companies. One would run $6,500 to $7,500 and the other would be upwards of $9,500 and they did not have a color match to our existing building. The City Attorney said the city would need to have a lease with the American Legion. The Legion will need to carry liability insurance and the city needs to include them as volunteers under our workers compensation policy. Imaging of Paupers Sections: Imaging of the paupers section was done and a handout was distributed to the committee. This handout was given to the engineer for use in developing the sprinkler design. Plaques and Benches: There was discussion about the plaques for the benches. They are already paid for and it was felt the plaques may detract from the overall look of the area. There would be maintenance issues and possible scratching of the coating on the benches. It was the consensus of the committee not to sell the benches. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Cathy Gabrian
