COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Gary Temple Bud Johnson Norman Orr COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: Miles Walton I NVOCAT I ON: MINUTES: Motion by Alderman Kroll to November 18, 1997, as presented, CORRESPONDENCE: Received a Risk Management CLAIMS: A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana, was in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Chuck Rodgets at 7:00 Donna Kilpatrick Gay Easton Dirk Kroll William Staudinger Invocation was given by Alderwoman Kilpatrick. approve the minutes of the regular meeting of seconded by Alderman Temple. Motion carried Bulletin #40 from MMIA. Claims for the month of November were reviewed by the Budget/Finance and recommended that they be paid. Motion by Alderwoman KilDatrick to $386,479.51 for the month of November, carried 6--0. approve the seconded by AMERICAN HERITAGE RIVER INITIATIVE: Committee claims in the amount of Alderman Johnson. Motion Motion by Alderman Kroll to support the American Heritage River Initiative program, seconded by Alderman Johnson. Motion carried 6--0. NUTTING BROTHERS SUBDIVISION - AMEND PLAT: Cal Cumin explained that the Nutting Brothers Subdivision amended plat is to change six lots to two lots. Motion by Alderman Johnson to approve the Nutring Brothers Subdivision amended plat, seconded by Alderman Temple. Motion carried 6--0. COMMITTEE MINUTES: --Board of Adjustment minutes of November 18, 1997 were presented. Motion by Alderman Temple to enter the Board of Adjustment minutes of November 18, 1997, into the record, seconded by Alderman Johnson. Motion carried 6--0. --Budget/Finance Committee minutes of November 18, 1997 were presented. Motion by Alderman Easton to enter the Budget/Finance Committee minutes of November 18, 1997, into the record, seconded by Alderman Temple. Motion carried --City Council Committee of the Whole minutes of November 18, 1997 were presented. Motion by Alderman Orr to enter minutes of November 18, 1997, into Motion carried 6--0 the City Council Committee of the Whole the record, seconded by Alderman Kroll. A letter was presented to Mayor Rodgers for his signature in support of the effort to have the Yellowstone River designated as an American Heritage River. Alderman Kroll stated that Cal Cumin, Alderman Johnson and himself met regarding the American Heritage River Initiative. They felt it would be a good opportunity for Laurel to promote tourism. It would work well with the tourism survey that is in effect now. Riverside and South Pond Parks and the Canyon Creek Battlefield Site on the Chief Joseph Trail would benefit from the tourism in Montana. It would be an advantage to the Laurel businesses and if the city should decide in the future, they could discontinue the program. Motion by Alderman minutes of November 20, Waste Committee minutes of November 20, 1997 were Temple to enter the Street/Alley & Solid Waste Committee 1997, into the record, seconded by Alderman Kroll. Alderman Kroll asked when a letter was sent to Mr. Fink at the Caboose regarding an encroachment permit for the moose statue? Alderman Easton replied a letter has not yet been sent. are being presented to the council for approval first. Alderman Temple commented that he realizes there are dealing with all types of encroachment permits. However, not agree with the encroachment permit fee. A vote was taken on the motion. Motion carried 6--0. COMMENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE: None APPOINTMENTS: Chief Alan Hovious stated that Patrick Kennedy probation. Mayor Rodgets approved Patrick Kennedy as police officer, 1997. Motion by Alderman Johnson to confirm Patrick Kennedy as a police effective November 26, 1997, seconded by Alderman Orr.
