A letter was presented to Mayor Rodgers for his signature in support of the
effort to have the Yellowstone River designated as an American Heritage River.
Alderman Kroll stated that Cal Cumin, Alderman Johnson and himself met regarding
the American Heritage River Initiative. They felt it would be a good opportunity
for Laurel to promote tourism. It would work well with the tourism survey that
is in effect now. Riverside and South Pond Parks and the Canyon Creek
Battlefield Site on the Chief Joseph Trail would benefit from the tourism in
Montana. It would be an advantage to the Laurel businesses and if the city
should decide in the future, they could discontinue the program.
