Board of Trustees Oct. 2, 1996
Attending -Donna Kilpatrick(presiding), Kay Kucera, Shirley
Cahill, Sue Carter, Peggy Arnold, and guest Dale Ahrens
Minutes -read and approved
Guest -Dale Ahrens presented information on a grant that
the Laurel School District received through the Drug
Free Schools program. The district would like to place
a Parenting Center consisting of books,videos, and two
VCR's in the Laurel Public Library with certain conditions.
A motion was passed to accept placement of the Parenting
Center in the library with certain conditions.
Coorespondence -There will be a management meeting Oct.

Statistics- Traffic for Sept. 96 was 1,394 up 9% from
Sept. 95. Circulation for Sept. 96 was 3,448 up 53%
from Sept. 95.
Old Business -The Laurel Public Library hosted the Federation
Picnic on Sept. 21. The survey will be run again in
the late fall and early winter. A Christmas program will
be offered on Nov. 19 by Bernice Mason. The Town and
Country Quilters will display their quilts until Nov.

New Business - Children Book Week is Nov. 18 -24.
Next meeting Nov. 13,1996 at 7 p.m.

Items of agreement between the Laurel School District and the Laurel Public Library.
1) The school district is responsible for the purchase and maintenance of the Parent
Center materials.
2) The school district agrees to follow the Public Library collection management policy
and guidelines. When a material no longer fits a need, the library may de- select the
material and remove it from the Public Library shelves.
3) The materials purchased for the Parent Center are the property of the school district.
The district reserves the right to shift those materials to a school owned facility
sometime In the future if the needs change or additional space becomes available.
4) The Public Library agrees to list and catalog the materials in a similar fashion as the
other books and materials in the library's collection. Reminders of overdue materials
• will be handled in the same manner as Public Library materials.
5) The school district agrees to follow the library copyright date guidelines so that only
the most current and accurate information is being made available.
6) The district has been made aware of the $5,000 deductible insurance coverage on
the contents of the library.
7) The library agrees to a no rent " charge for the housing of this Parent Center. A
portion of the district's Parent Center budget will be set aside for incidental costs to be
reimbursed back to the Public Library so that no out of pocket costs will be incurred by
the Public Library in connection with the Parent Center.
8) The district agrees to purchase the necessary shelving for the Parent Center
materials. These will match the current decor of the Public Library shelving.
9) Any audio - visual equipment purchased for the Parent Center will be made available
for use to other then Parent Center materials, when not being used in conjunction with
the Parent Center.
• 10) The Public Library will allow signs to be placed in and near the Parent Center to
indicate the location of the Parent Center.
11) The Public Library reserves the right to okay for placement all materials to be
placed in the Parent Library section while this center is housed in the Public Library
building.
12) Out of city and out of county residents associated with the Laurel schools may
,,� check -out materials according to the check -out guidelines.
