HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board - 2001 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE LAUREL PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD 2000 -2001 The Laurel Public Library is located at 720 W 3rd St. Laurel, MT. Winter hours are observed from Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend. Winter hours are Monday- Thursday 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Summer hours are observed from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Summer hours are Monday- Thursday 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday's 10 a.m. to noon. The Laurel Public Library is staffed by one full time library director and three part time assistants and clerks for a total of 2.75 full time equivalents. The library serves residents of the City of Laurel. Library cards and borrowing privileges are also available to Yellowstone County residents as a courtesy. Carbon and Stillwater residents may purchase a nonresident library card to borrow library materials. Books, magazines, videos, books on cassette, and large print materials are available for borrowing. Reference materials and computers with Internet access are available to use in the library. The library subscribes to an Internet accessible database called Info Trac. This database allows access to current magazine citations and full text articles. Remote or home access is available to library card holders. Materials may be borrowed from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. The Laurel Public Library also lends its materials to other libraries. The library will be reimbursed from the State General Fund for lending materials to other libraries. The library staff is currently entering the library records of our inventory of library materials into the OCLC database that allows us to participate in interlibrary loan activities. Library materials are bar -coded and entered into our own database at the same time so that an automated circulation system with computer access to the catalog will be available to library users in the future. A preschool story time was conducted every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. by the Laurel Federated Woman's Club. Many elementary classes toured the library during the school year. A reading program is offered during the months school is recessed for the summer. The Laurel Library Board revised the Collection Management Policy and the Technology Plan. The Collection Management Policy and the Technology Plan were approved by the Montana State Library. Goals of the Laurel Public Library Board are to develop a long -range plan, a capital improvements plan and a marketing plan. Challenges include but are not limited to educating staff and library users on new technology, providing library users with current information sources, and finding additional funding sources to keep up with the recreational and informational needs of library users.
