Minutes for 3 -21, 4 -16 and 5 -2 were approved as presented
Linda says Laurel Alive has their first Rock the Block event Friday and are still in need of some
volunteers. 80 posters were passed out with the event dates.
The Chamber is working hard on the 4 of July events. They are also looking for volunteers for the
East /West Shrine football game
Clean up at Town Square —mulch was donated by Fox Lumber and Ace Hardware
Caboose electric is coming in two weeks and a grant has been approved for trees with planting to be
done by June 19, 2011
Dean /Janice updated us on S. 4 Tom Nelson sent an email to the Mayor and attorney Sam Painter
updating them on the agreements made. Everyone is on board and they are hoping to start in about 2
weeks. Everyone has agreed to pay % at the start on the project and the balance when work is
completed. The street will stay open as much as possible during the work.
Heidi asked where LURA is going? There is currently about $175,000 after the sidewalk project, there is
about $125,000 added to the balance sheet every year that could be committed to projects.
Some yearly project may need to be considered for the next 5 to 7 years, water and sewer projects
might be considered is the head of Public Works would provide a list of needed projects requested
several months ago, new Tight poles may need to be added or updated, trash bins, parking across Main
Street, consider all ideas at this time and research the cost at a later date. Create a planning session
and have everyone submit ideas. LURAs projects have been reactive not proactive.
High Plains will be approved by City Council for Technical Support and Facade improvement. Nash will
be the main contact rather than Randy Hafer and other specialties will be brought in as needed. LURA
has currently committed $25,000 for Technical Assistance, $50,000 for Facade improvement, $10,000 to
High Plains and $40,000 for sidewalks
Last year LURA contributed $4,000 to the budget of the City Planner.
A Motion was made to contribute $6,000 to the City Planner's budget. The Motion was seconded and
passed.
Sidewalk ideas will be brought up by City Council Tuesday. The project has a total cost of $90,000 with
the state contributing $43,000, LURA contributing $40,000 and the City to contribute the balance. The
Tree Board has to approve the trees.
The next scheduled meeting is June 20, 2011
