Carolyn Boyd was elected Chair. The name of this Task Force will be the Laurel City
School Task Force.
The mission of the Task Force as set forth in the Joint Resolution with the Laurel Public
School Board for the Establishment of a Joint Task Force was reviewed. The task is "to
examine these issues and problems, to make the community aware of these issues
and problems: and working with the community, to develop systematic and measured
approaches over the coming months and year to most effectively address these
issues."
-- - - - -- ie role of the task force was discussed at length and it was agreed that the task Force
would work to coordinate services currently available, to elicit ideas from the
community, and to funnel these ideas to the agencies that could best carry them out.
The first step will be to sponsor a meeting of groups directly involved in providing
services for drug and alcohol problems and groups with a special interest in these
problems. The goal of the meeting will be to share information about services currently
available. Providers that will be invited to speak are: Ministerial Association, YMCA,
Laurel Justice Coalition, K -12 Drug Free School Coordinator, Juvenile Probation
Officer, Corpslinks, High School counselors, and the Laurel Police Department.
Interested groups that will be invited are: Chamber of Commerce, Student Councils at
the High School and Middle School, Senior Citizens, PTA's, Judge Kerr, School
Superintendent, Mayor, Montana Council on Aging, and the Laurel Outlook.
This meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the City
Council Chambers.
Responsibility for mailings for the Task Force will be shared by the School District and
City. J
