MAIN STREET Members present: Shirley McDermott, Dirk Frickel, Bruce McGee, Dean Rankin, Daniel Klein Advisors present: Steve Zeier Others present: Bill Kampfer, Linda Frickel, Heidi Jenson, Tom Nelson, Zak Allread, Katie Welsh, Terry Sukut of JGA Architects No Minutes from last month's meeting Matt Holden of USA World Development spoke last meeting, not much grant money available, some for Rural communities — Laurel qualifies Linda spoke about Laurel Alive — dates are set, the first one is May 20. Four bands are set, vendors and beer concessions are set. They still need volunteers to tend bar, set up, take down. Next meeting is March 23 at 6 p.m. at the Owl Heidi Jenson is the new City Planner taking over for James Caniglia Dean says they have received the last quote for hook up and paving for S. 4 The price per business owner is $7,300, now they have to approach the business /property owners. Those who don't want to hook up now will have to wait as long as 10 years. The hook ups will take about 2 weeks. Terry Sukut says his firm is a full service firm and has been in business over 40 years. They have worked with the Laurel School System and will be anxious to help LURA with the Facade and Technical Assistance programs. Annual budget and work plan will try to be completed by early spring. Shirley E. needs to provide money basis to merge the budget and work plan Sidewalk improvement proposals are on going. CETEP money should be available. What is Laurel currently doing with available money? Heidi will find out. New Business — City Manager job opening is in the paper — Linda and Dean are on the selection committee. MSUB TIF reports the idea there have been some businesses brought in who have hurt existing business. TIFs need to be managed and an active group needs to control. The Movie Theater opened and looks like a success. It is well done, 250 seats were sold, tickets will be $5 and $7, concessions will be affordable. Public comments are always welcome at LURA. We are starting our 3` year. Among some of our successes are the brew pub, movie theater, quilt shop expansion, TSC, bakery, water and sewer lines crossing main east and west, the new water line for the movie theater. We would like to have a reporter from the Outlook to do a story updating our activities. The next meeting is April 18.
