OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Wheeler Cathy Gabrian
Don Ebright Lonnie Bekel
Roger Perkins
• Public Input — None
• Cemetery pump update: - Matt said the pump is in need of repair. Lonnie Bekel, L & J Machine, provided a
handout with quote to repair the pump and motor. Lonnie explained the repairs and provided pictures of the
pump parts. The first part of the quote is for the pump, at a cost of $8,810.94 and the second part is $1679.30
for repair of the motor. The total quote is $10,490.24. Lonnie said there is no efficiency with the pump and a
propeller was removed, at some point.
Discussion followed regarding repair versus purchasing a new pump. If a new pump is purchased, Lonnie
suggested a 316 stainless steel pump, which is the most durable on river water. It would run $10,000 to
$13,000 for a new pump that would handle 3 -phase power.
Matt's immediate concern is to have a working pump in place by spring.
Roger Perkins, Aqua Engineering, distributed a handout regarding the Laurel Cemetery Irrigation System
Upgrade. He has knowledge of the city pump and it was running at 60% efficiency this spring. He also agrees
the pump needs replacing. He reviewed his handout which goes over replacement of the pump, poles and
equipment for 3 -phase power, and a 6" line from the pump to the edge of the cemetery property.
Chuck stated that the city needs to get two quotes for any work that is done, under $50,000.
Matt was concerned about the cost of getting 3 -phase power. He had a quote of $19,000 from Yellowstone
Valley Electric.
There was additional information discussed regarding the following.
• Need to decide the drive for variable frequency
• Need for 6" pipe to cemetery because of initial pressure from pump
• Necessary permits to put pipe under highway and cost to run pipe
Dick brought up the possibility of relocating our pumping station to the High Ditch. This ditch has a longer
pumping season, it has 3 -phase power close by and no pipe would have to go under the highway. He
understood that we have shares on this ditch, not just pumping rights.
Matt said this is something to consider but we still need to have water for the cemetery by spring.
Motion by Dick, seconded by Lu Anne to go out for bid for a new 25 -horse power motor and pump with
stainless steel impeller, 6" pipeline from the Cove Ditch to the cemetery property, bring 3 -phase power
(230/460) to the control panel, and electrical hookup to the pump. Motion carried 4 -0.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
