Dear Mayor Olson,
Who we are and We attend West Elementary in Laurel. We get picked up by our parents
where we're from at either Graff or West School. We have noticed this problem everyday.
The Problem The cross walks and the comer of the streets where we walk is ice packed and is
very slippery. Then when it starts to melt we have big, big puddles to walk thru.
Like at Graff Elementary, the comer by the four way stop has big puddle that we
must walk thru to get across the street. For those kids who ride the bus, they
must wait outside in the grass area that is covered in snow and ice.
Suggestion for The Girl Scouts in our group, Troop 2226, have had many meetings about this.
a solution We have a couple of solutions we would like for you to consider. First would be
to plow the snow and ice 4feet from the curb. This will help the water to be able
to drain when it starts to melt. Second is to build a shelter for the bus kids to
stand under while waiting on the bus. It will need to be covered so that the inside
does not get snow and ice in it. This will also help when it is raining.
What we can do This is what we can do to help:
• Put down ice melt
• Paint the shelter
• Make posters asking for volunteers to help build the shelter
Thank you for reading about the problem in our neighborhood. We hope you
will help us and write back.
Sincerely,
Girl Scout Troop 2226
