Laurel Urban Renewal Agency
November 20 meeting, 2010
-Linda nickel Of The Chamber of Commerce
reports that both committees are in the process of preparing for holidays, discussing future projects and
decorating downtown Laurel.
- Reviewal of Annual Work Plan: Needs to be reviewed by all LURA members. Draft 3 needs to be approved
and does it have to go before council?
-Light discussion over Town Square safety issues:
Would LURA like to look into addressing the issues. Laurel Alive can probably take care of the issues by
summer 2011
-James Caniglia
reports that sidewalk improvement costs are coming in 20 -25% lower than normal. As a TIFD project it would
be a good idea to get the project done within the next year. A) Propose 50/50 with landowners. B) Get public
works to map out poor areas and contact property owners to be aware of the 50/50 option. C)Have a contractor
come out for a fee proposal on the entire TIF district. Address each issue on a case by case basis.
-the Hurtzler Hotel
just doesn't seem like its going to workout with what little manpower and or cash it will take to make it happen.
Bill Sheridan has resigned as City Administrator and the mayor ken Olsen has taken his place as James' boss
once again. Hurtzler Hotel is being asked 220k for. WAY more than it should be.
- Janice Lehman
reports that she has at least been contacted about a hookup on her south 4 street property, showing signs of
movement.
-Steve Zeier
added that BSEDA took a tour of Laurel, had a lot of compliments on LURA and Laurel Alive projects. A study
is being done on TIF districts to show all of the positive effects on TIFD. The study is being funded by a long
list of very credible groups.
- Unfmished business:
Bill will be asked to come back as secretary with James' permission.
-Steve Zeier may not be at the December meeting.
