OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Kurt Markegard

Max Long
• Public Input — None
• Update on Veteran's Gathering Area
1. Benches — The benches have been installed in two rows. Chuck said there are pros and cons
to putting in a third row. Bob Saxbury said he would like to wait to see if a third row is
needed after it has been used for Memorial Day next spring.
2. Plaque — Chuck said an aluminum plaque can be ordered for the benches that would
allow three lines with 50 characters. The cost is $25.00 plus freight. They would be
installed on the center back of the bench. Norm said he will check in Billings to see if he
can get a better plaque for less money.
3. Podium — Chuck called Wood's Powr Grip about the podium. He will have more
information at the next meeting.
4. Lighting — Kurt said it would be very expensive to bring electricity from our shop
building to the flag poles. He passed out information on many different options for solar
lighting and thinks the pedestal mount would be the best option. The problem with
smaller ones is that they run out of charge and in the winter, they would freeze.
There was discussion about bringing electricity to this area. Max Long felt we need to do
it with electricity instead of solar. It was asked if it would be possible to bring electricity
from the Masonic Lodge, on power poles, to our property and then bury the cable to the
flag poles.
5. Landscape — LuAnne went to Field of Dreams and purchased the plants and weed barrier
for the gathering area. She suggested scoria rock as a fill around the plants.
LuAnne asked whether the posts and gates will be removed. There was discussion and it
was stated we may not have the money to go forward with this project. It was stated that
we could still remove the posts and gates and clean it up. LuAnne also asked whether we
could fix the break in the curbing at the front of the cemetery. Kurt said the crew would
be able to fix it. Motion by LuAnne, seconded by Norm to take down the pillars and gates
before the snow flies. Motion carried.
• Memorials — There was discussion about what memorial amount we would set for the benches.
Dick asked if we are trying to make money on it. The suggested amounts were $300.00 or

$500.00 per bench. It was stated there are 16 benches available. Motion by Norm, seconded by
Dick to charge $500.00 per bench for a memorial. Motion carried. It was suggested that an
article be done on the gathering area for the Laurel Outlook and the opportunity for memorials
could be mentioned in the article. Information could also be put in the kiosk. At some point, the
committee would like to design a brochure with information on the cemetery that could be
handed out and made available to the community.
• Other — Norm questioned the flying of the flags at half staff. He went by the cemetery and the
American Flag was at half staff and the other two flags were flying higher. It was clarified that
when the American flag is at half staff, other flags need to be lower than the American flag. In
response to a question about lighting the flags, only the American flag needs to be lit.
Kurt suggested putting some type of plaque at the gathering area that would be a lasting reminder
as to when this gathering area was dedicated. It was suggested to incorporate a plaque on the
podium. Chuck said he would like to have the entire area finished by Veteran's Day on
November 11
The meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
