Hulse, CEO VIA Electronic Mail Date: August 25, 2010 Re: MMIA Board of Directors Elections The MMIA Board of Directors consists of fifteen individuals representing member entities of the MMIA. Seven of the Board seats are appointed by members with a population exceeding 20,000. Seven of the Board seats are elected to represent the members with a population less than 20,000 and the fifteenth seat(At-Large Seat)is elected by the seated fourteen Directors.All terms on the Board are for two years. Terms are staggered and expire at the MMIA Annual meeting. At the 2010 MMIA Annual meeting, an election will be held for four seats representing members with a population under 20,000. All five incumbent Board members(including the at-large representative)whose terms expire in 2010 have indicated they will stand for re-election. Individuals who are interested in standing for election to the MMIA Board and are an elected or appointed official of a member with a population less than 20,000 may place their name in nomination. This can be done by submitting a letter to the MMIA Board of Directors placing the name in nomination or by having their name placed in nomination verbally at the 2010 Annual Meeting. This meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 8, 2010 commencing at 9:15 a.m. in conjunction with the League of Cities Conference in Butte, MT. The Board meets eight to ten times per year. Meetings are generally held on Fridays in Helena. Persons interested in this position should be available to attend regular meetings and a two to three day Board retreat held each winter/spring. The MMIA Board is a dynamic organization charged with directing the activities of a statewide interlocal agency that provides essential risk retention and management services to Montana cities and towns. Through regional and national training, Board members obtain a broad understanding of the varied aspects of the liability, workers' compensation, property and employee benefits risk retention industries. Board members participating in meetings or training are reimbursed for lodging and receive per diem and mileage payments.
