COUNCIL CHAMBERS Members Present: Doug Poehls Chuck Dickerson Emelie Eaton Clete Knaub Pat Kimmet Others Present: Bill Sheridan Brent Peters Jan Faught Job Description—Chief-Emergency Medical Services Chairman Doug Poehls called the meeting to order. Doug stated the minutes from the past meeting were via internet. A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the previous meeting (6-28-10). Motion was passed unanimously. Doug stated at the last meeting the job description was discussed and put off because of some discrepancies in some of the wording. At that time, Jan said she had essentially developed the job description and was in agreement with it except for the word "paramedic" in the description of qualifications. Doug also found the word"paramedic"was in#9 of the duties and responsibilities. Doug said a number of people in the community have told him that they like the ambulance service. He also did research on whether other ambulance directors are required to be a paramedic. He went over the different requirements of the job descriptions and found they were pretty much split. Pat Kimmet apologized for being late. Doug explained to Pat that the meeting was being held tonight for the job description, to finalize it and send a recommendation to the council. Pat asked if there was a reason to change the recommendation from the last meeting. Doug said yes, as he found the word"paramedic" in another place on the first page of the job description. Chuck Dickerson stated Jan did say at the last meeting that she put together the job description except for the word "paramedic", which was added in two places. He felt the word paramedic should be taken out and then go forward with getting a medical director. Emelie agrees and sees no reason to discuss this further but to eliminate the word paramedic and recommend it to the council. Chairman Poehls asked for public comments. Susan Huntoon, 501 Cottonwood, Laurel, said Jan has done a good job. She hopes the motion includes that they get on with getting a medical director. Motion was made by Chuck Dickerson and seconded by Pat Kimmet to recommend to the council to approve the job description, strike the word"paramedic"in two places and go forth with getting a medical director. Discussion as to how the job description#9 would read without the word paramedic. It would read "May, where needed, perform duties related to providing EMT-Basic level care to patient". On the back page in qualifications it would read "Must have a certificate of currency as a nationally and Montana registered Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. Motion passed unanimously 5-0. Jan suggested that the word "Chief' should not be in the job description title. In medical services, the title is always referred to as Ambulance Director. Motion was made by Chuck Dickerson and seconded by Emelie Eaton that the job description title is Director-Emergency Medical Services. Motion passed unanimously 5-0. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Neva Hall
