AGENCY EDUCATION SESSIONS (10 MINUTES) SYSCO FOODS: CHUCK KELLY Chuck reported that he became aware and involved with the Yellowstone County LEPC due to the H1 N1 outbreaks and the review of their own pandemic response plan. MAY 13, 2010 MINUTES 6 LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE 2305 8TM AVENUE NORTH — BILLINGS, MT 59101 JOE MARCOTTE, CHAIR He reported that Sysco is the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products and paper products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home. Its family of products also includes equipment and supplies for the foodservice and hospitality industries. On a local level, Sysco employs approximately 375 people with more than 5,000 customers. Part of their response plan was an expansion project that should be completed by the end of the month, the installation of a generator system that will keep the cooler functioning in the event of an emergency. And most critical to their goal of keeping the Sysco facility functioning and to service priority care customers was to focus on cross - training their employees. For Sysco, it began with a promise to assist foodservice operators in providing consumers with solutions for meals consumed away from home. Since the initial public offering in 1970, when sales were $115 million. In 1977 Sysco surpassed its competitors to become the leading supplier to "meals - prepared- away -from -home" operations in North America. Since then, the industry it serves has expanded from $35 billion to more than $200 billion. Many solid customer relationships have been nurtured along the way, countless dining trends and meal alternatives have evolved, and today the decision to consume meals prepared away from home is as much necessity as choice. The company operates 186 distribution facilities serving approximately 400,000 customers. Sysco's product lines are as diverse as the 50,000 employees who support its daily operations. They include not only the ingredients needed to prepare meals, but also numerous ancillary preparation and serving items. As a result, Sysco can make a difference in its customers' lives and the success of their businesses. Sysco's Mission - Helping Our Customers Succeed. When asked about what Sysco would do if the roads were closed? He reported that emergency planning is a priority for Sysco Corporate. Altemate routes and detour plans are already in place to get units to their locations. When asked about Sysco customers? He stated that becoming a Sysco customer is easy, but it's important to remember that as a business -to- business company, we only deliver to business addresses.
