Old Business: The Budget for 2009/2010 has been approved (at Council Meeting tonight) and raises will take effect next month. Bruce motioned to accept the budget as it is being presented to the City Council, Rachelle seconded. The WEX program is still offering us the opportunity to use some of their participants. These participants are from the HRDC Nathan presented information concerning the progress of the Library Foundation. He also gave the name of a possible volunteer coordinator for the library. Nancy will meet with the Friends of the Library group on Thursday, October 15 at 1:30pm. She will present the wishlist that library staff has come up with. Jenny has requested that she be permanently removed from the work schedule for Thursday of each week. This time will be filled by our substitute. It has been decided that the library will apply to Americorp in January for the Fall Semester at MSU- Billings. This may be an effective way to supplement lack of library personnel. Nancy gave report on her trip to Great Falls for the Fall Workshop. She attended workshops on information searches using library provided databases, using library statistics to present the "whole" picture concerning library needs, time management for library personnel, and policy development. Nathan reported that he and Priscilla will schedule a meeting with Suzanne Reyrner concerning the library foundation some time after October. Christy has worked on the community room policy but the board decided to table any further action until it could be determined where the revenue stream would go to and how would benefit from it. It was also decided that other libraries should be contacted to find out what their policies are concerning allowing groups to use the room if they pay for the privilege. There has been no further information on the ARRA. Michael Furman, Jr. has been hired as the new substitute librarian. Library staff report that they are very pleased with the choice. New Business Just a reminder, there is a training session scheduled on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 pm for board members. It will cover parliamentary procedures and implementation for board personnel. Nancy mentioned that we need to create an internet & computer use policy for the library. The benefit of this policy would be that all library staff will be using the same guidelines for all users, not just a select few. There has been no progress on the Collection Management Policy at this time. Christy has expressed an interest in having the Library Board meetings changed to another day or possibly moved to an earlier time of day. The impact of changing board meetings would affect all members. It was unanimously decided by all present that board meetings should continue to be held on the second Tuesday of each month. Nancy let the board know that the Overdue Collection Policy needed to be updated and we need to adopt and implement a Volunteer Policy. Fall Book Sale is being held November 6 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and November 7 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Addressing the Board: No one came to address the board at this time. Next regular meeting November 10, 2009
